September is National Fruits & Veggies Month, so Registered Dietitian Andrea Miller is sharing her favorite way to cook vegetables: roasting them! This particular recipe features summer vegetables that are readily available locally right now, however, you can roast almost any vegetable you'd like, and it's SO easy, delicious and nutritious.

Congratulations to Ellen Beaverson, our September 2023 Employee of the Month! Ellen has been a CHWC employee since 2005. She primarily works as an LPN in ICU/TU, however, she can be found in many departments at CHWC. Ellen was nominated by several of her coworkers. Here is what they had to say about her:
• Ellen is an invaluable resource to this hospital. She is one that every single unit can count on to help. She inspires us to be the best nurses we can be. We have learned so much by watching her, how she respects providers, nurses, patients and anyone she comes into contact with. Everyone knows Ellen, as she has this way of making everyone feel seen and loved. Ellen brings her calm demeanor wherever she goes and is always there to help make her coworkers laugh.
• She is a nurse, a friend and my HERO!!
• Ellen exemplifies CHWC’s core values and mission statement, working wherever is needed without complaint. She is called upon to take care of the sickest of patients, is always compassionate, is honest and can tell patients how things really are without scaring them. She treats all of her patients like they are her own family, and has this uncanny ability to get patients to open up to her. Everyone looks up to Ellen and values her thoughts and opinions.
• If she questions something, you pause and listen.
• She is the glue that holds the night shift together. The unit flows so much better when she is around, as she knows how each one of us does things and gets it around and ready for us before we even know we need it. Not only is she an amazing nurse, but is also an amazing person. Ellen is exactly what CHWC strives to be to the community.

Congratulations again, Ellen! Your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated, and without a doubt, you are amazing!

Congratulations to Dr. Jodi Tinkel of the CHWC Cardiology Clinic for earning our CHWC Exceptional Provider Award! In the 17 years she has been practicing cardiology, Dr. Tinkel has made a significant impact in the lives of her patients.

Dr. Tinkel earned her medical degree with honors in 2000 from the Medical College of Ohio. She completed her residency and fellowship at the Medical College of Ohio as well, then began practicing as a cardiologist in 2006. Dr. Tinkel joined us here at CHWC in the summer of 2016. In 2022, Dr. Tinkel was awarded the University of Toledo Dean’s Award for AHEC Faculty Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Tinkel’s colleagues describe her as: compassionate, selfless, caring, kind, driven, dedicated, thoughtful, empathetic, inspiring, confident, reliable and supportive. The word “adventurous” was also mentioned a few times. ☺️
They also said that:
–Dr. Tinkel makes people feel comfortable to ask questions, and she’s willing to explain things in-depth so patients and coworkers have a better understanding of testing and results.
–Dr. Tinkel takes time to listen to patients, and is selfless when it comes to making sure patients are taken care of, even in her “off-time.”
–Dr. Tinkel lives CHWC’s core values, and is an excellent mentor.
–Dr. Tinkel is kind and empathetic; she shows compassion toward her patients and makes sure they are taken care of, even if it isn’t directly related to cardiology. She goes out of her way to make patients feel comfortable with their plan of care. It is an honor and privilege to work alongside one of CHWC’s best.

Thank you to Dr. Tinkel for living CHWC’s core values every day! Without a doubt, she is worthy of our Exceptional Provider Award!
