Huraaryyy!!! Happy Birthday to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Here is the Statement from the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL). "Today, July 26, 2024, holds great significance for NCIL and over 61 million Americans with disabilities. It marks the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This landmark legislation is crucial in legally ensuring that the basic civil rights of people with disabilities are protected and enforced. Thanks to the ADA, many physical barriers have been removed, and individuals with all types of disabilities are experiencing an improved quality of life.
NCIL acknowledges and celebrates the significant advancements brought about by the ADA. However, we also recognize that this is just the beginning β€” there is still much work to be done!"

Day 4 in Washington DC is another fruitful day!!! My gratitude goes to our Director Sarah Launderville for giving me this opportunity to represent our office, Vermont Center for Independent Living. Today we were honored to meet the Staff of our Senators and our US Representative to present our collective Legislative Priorities from NCIL to them. We had some good discussions and we are hopeful Vermont will be proactive in putting words into action soon.

I believe in the Youth of Today to change the negative narratives about disability. Today is a great day and a great day is today. I am so proud of Colchester High School for reading my book, I'm Able: A Woman's Advice for Disability Change Agents. Today, we had a very successful discussion about disability pride and how we can dismantle ableism and its structures! This is just the beginning of greater days ahead. I am so grateful to God for His faithfulness!
