Vermont has updated it's child passenger safety law to more closely align with AAP recommendations.

The law is the minimum required. Pediatricians recommend that children stay in the car seat and position until they fully outgrow that phase. So check the weight limit before you change. You may not need to transition them as soon as you think.

New Vermont's law mandates that children must be secured in a car seat until they turn five years old

Read about Dr. Greta Spottswood's program, the VT Child Psychiatry Access Program and how it supports primary care physicians like Dr. Bannach to provide mental health support to children and adolescents.

One pediatrician called the grant-funded Vermont Child Psychiatry Access Program “a game-changer,” giving her and her peers more confidence in an area of care that has become an increasingly big part of their practice.

Unfortunately there have been shortages of common ADHD medications throughout the past several months. This has worsened recently as a large company is no longer manufacturing the generic methylphenidate. The discontinuation of this generic product is negatively impacting supply of other options too. We are aware this is a challenge for many of our patients.

What can you do if this happens to you?

1 - Ask to change to brand name. Brand names tend to be available, although sometimes more costly unfortunately.

2- Ask your pharmacist if another local store has some available or if they can order your medication. Yes, you may have to wait a few days to get it which is very hard.

3- Set up a visit with a provider to discuss an alternative options that best suit your child. This can be arranged as a telehealth visit and your child does not need to be present. We can discuss how to change from one medication to another.

We are sorry about this inconvenience and know that for many families these medications are very helpful. Thank you for your patience as we all weather these supply chain issues together.

Dr. Ashley Miller of South Royalton Health Center:
"I am better able to care for the children in my practice when I can focus on keeping their minds and bodies healthy as opposed to simply treating them when they are sick or in crisis. This ability had been made a reality because of the services, care coordination, and consistent monthly payments that OneCare provides."

It was such a relief to be able to provide the care our patients needed without worrying and devoting our time and energy to whether we would be able to keep our doors open and meet their needs in six months.

AAP-VT member Dr. Christian Pulcini:

"As a pediatric emergency medicine physician and firearm researcher, I know that it is just a matter of time before all of us will be deeply affected by the rising tragedy of firearm injury and death unless we take definitive action to mitigate our current trajectory."

Read his call to action here ⬇️

More Vermonters died of firearm injuries in 2021 than any year in the past decade, and those numbers are expected to have increased for 2022.
