Why do we use the term safe space? Part 5

It means the therapy room or the virtual room can become a container. Within the container ther are boundaries and guardrails. in other words the confidential space offers a place if freedom of expression. You may find yourself expressing words, action o through art, music or movement. The therapist will guide you and pace the experience of therapy so that you are not overwhelmed by past trauma. The space remains contained. The space remains safe for you.

A good therapist will identify your strengths and use them as a platform for building new strengths, exploring experience and creating new ways of interacting with others, creating safety in relationships and learning new ways of coping. Therapy is meant to provide you with a safe space and an individual that is capable of attuning to you. A therapist iis trained to listen, observe and mirror back to you in that safe space.
