We cannot give what we haven't received. If we want our children to learn compassion, love, and empathy this starts with us providing this for them-- ESPECIALLY during hard moments. Disconnection during moments of dysregulation is rarely the answer.

More un-learning here.

When you create a safe environment that focuses on regulation and collaboration, this term is unnecessary.

This 100% creates an environment of compliance.

Thank you, Not An Autism Mom for this truth.

To expand from our post yesterday: Children who have experienced trauma experience a disconnection from themselves and the world. They learn that the world is harsh, disregarding, and painful. They learn to protect themselves from others instead of connecting. These children need predictability, consistency, and most importantly, love to heal-- not more pain. They need to know they can rely on their adults in their life to be a safe haven so they can remove the shield of armor they've worn to keep themselves safe for such a long time.
