We pause today to honor the life and vision of Dr. Michel Odent, a groundbreaking obstetrician whose influence reshaped childbirth care worldwide. Born July 7, 1930, Dr. Odent passed away on August 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, innovation, and maternal empowerment.

Dr. Odent’s work championed the innate wisdom of birth and prioritized the physiological, respectful care of birthing women. We would like to honor the ways he has shaped a birth-centered, woman-first approach. May his legacy remind us of the power of gentleness, presence, and evidence-based care in midwifery.

Rest in peace, Dr. Odent—your wisdom lives on in every gentle birth.

Hands-on skills are a vital part of midwifery training — and venipuncture is one of them! During their Module 201 in-person workshop, our students practiced this essential skill under guidance and supervision, building both confidence and competence.

Venipuncture allows midwives to gather important lab work that supports safe, evidence-based care for birthing families. Every new skill mastered is another step toward becoming a skilled and compassionate midwife.

📣Good News! If you are on Medicaid, TANF, SNAP or FDPIR, you are automatically eligible to be on WIC at the same time. If you do not participate in those programs - no worries! WIC's income guidelines recently changed and this means even more people now qualify.

Plugged or blocked milk ducts can happen when the breastmilk doesn't fully drain. While uncomfortable, the are common, and there are ways to find relief.

💟Use heat before feeding - shower or use a warm compress on the affected area.
💟 Massage the breast before and during a feeding - use small, circular movements toward your chest (not toward the ni**le).
💟 Breastfeed on demand and use different positions - try a position where your baby’s chin points toward the plugged duct.
💟 Empty the affected breast first.
💟 Place a cold pack on the breast to help reduce pain between feedings.

If you have plugged ducts or any questions about breastfeeding, reach out to a WIC breastfeeding expert for support.
