We’re proud to announce that Black Canyon Surgical Center is expanding our orthopedic services with the addition of a MAKO® Total Joint Program 🦾

This community-based program increases access to outpatient joint replacement, bringing advanced, robotic-assisted care to patients in an ambulatory surgical center setting. MAKO technology allows for greater precision, personalization, and efficiency, supporting strong outcomes and faster recovery.

We’re excited to introduce this innovative program and continue expanding access to high-quality orthopedic care in our community.

We’re excited to share that Black Canyon Surgical Center has recently completed a 4,500 square foot expansion and renovation! 🎉

This expansion allows us to better support our growing team and patient volume, including a newly relocated and expanded staff break room and locker rooms, an additional pre-op area to accommodate more surgical cases, and a significant increase in equipment and supply storage.

These upgrades also make room for new, advanced surgical technology.

We’re proud of this milestone and look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality care in a more efficient, modern space!

Meet Dr. Shad Saunders, a dedicated ophthalmologist serving patients across western Colorado with advanced medical and surgical eye care.

He specializes in no-stitch, small-incision cataract surgery using the latest implant technology. Dr. Saunders also provides expert care for macular degeneration, including intra-ocular injections for wet AMD, and performs eyelid procedures such as blepharoplasty and skin cancer removal and reconstruction.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Saunders enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three children, whether they’re boating, supporting youth sports, or playing pickleball together.

Meet Dr. Neubaum, an experienced ophthalmologist dedicated to delivering expert medical and surgical eye care for patients throughout western Colorado.

He brings extensive clinical expertise for a wide range of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetes-related eye disease.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Neubaum enjoys life in western Colorado with his wife and three daughters, exploring the outdoors through rafting, hiking, and camping.

Meet Dr. Michele Lacy, a board-certified pediatric dentist with advanced training from Harvard University and Children’s Hospital Colorado.

With nearly a decade of experience serving families on the Western Slope, Dr. Lacy specializes in pediatric dental care, including conscious oral sedation, general anesthesia, and emergency care. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, an accomplished researcher, and a contributing author to one of the world’s leading handbooks on pediatric global health.

Originally from Fortaleza, Brazil, Dr. Lacy is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. She and her husband Colin are raising their two sons, Liam and Noah, here on the Western Slope, where they enjoy skiing, cheering for the Broncos, and exploring the outdoors with their beagle, Bagel.

Dr. Lacy is passionate about helping children feel safe and cared for at the dentist, and she is proud to bring her expertise and compassion to the PDS team.
