🧥🚗 Winter Coats & Car Seats: What Parents Should Know

Winter weather makes it tempting to bundle kids up—but bulky coats and snowsuits should not be worn under car seat harnesses.

Why it matters:
In a crash, thick winter coats flatten instantly, creating extra space under the harness. This can allow a child to slip out of the straps and be seriously injured.

How to keep kids warm and safe:
✔️ Buckle your child in with no bulky layers
✔️ Tighten the harness so it passes the “pinch test”
✔️ Place coats or blankets over the harness after buckling
✔️ Warm up the car before heading out, when possible

A few small changes can make a big difference in keeping your child protected this winter. 💙

Flu activity is on the rise across Colorado, and cases typically continue well into the winter months. If your child hasn’t gotten a flu shot yet, there’s still time—and it can still make a difference.

The flu vaccine helps reduce the risk of severe illness, complications, and hospitalization, especially for kids. Even if flu season is already underway, vaccination can provide important protection.

👉 We currently have flu vaccines available at Pediatric Associates (injectable only; FluMist is no longer available).

The start of a new year is a great time to help kids build healthy habits—one small step at a time! Encouraging simple, age-appropriate resolutions can boost confidence, responsibility, and overall well-being.

Here are a few ideas to inspire your family:
🍎 Eat more fruits and veggies (try one new food a week!)
🏃‍♂️ Move every day—a walk, dance break, or outdoor play counts
😴 Protect sleep routines for better mood and focus
💧 Choose water over sugary drinks
💬 Talk about feelings and practice kindness
📚 Read for fun—even 10 minutes makes a difference
🧺 Help at home with small chores

The goal isn’t perfection—just progress and positivity. Start with one or two resolutions and celebrate each win along the way!
