Intermittent fasting looked very promising in early animal research as a way to improve our health. However, a single day of fasting in a rat is biologically equivalent to fasting for about a month in a human, so we can't extrapolate these findings well.

Then came the uncontrolled human trials showing intermittent fasting or time-restricted eating programs cause substantial health benefits. However, fat loss always has these health benefits.

A new study now adds to the growing evidence that intermittent fasting does not have meaningful health or fat loss benefits independent of calorie restriction. Liu et al. had 139 individuals follow a calorie-restricted diet for a year with or without an 8-hour eating window. There were no significant differences between groups in body composition change or metabolic risk factors, including insulin sensitivity, at 6 or 12 months.

Intermittent fasting is a tool, not magic. If fasting suits your lifestyle, it's a very convenient way to reduce energy intake. If it doesn't, that's fine: you're not missing out on any health benefits or fat loss.

Travel Supplements.
-
If you have followed me for a while, you will know I am NOT a huge supplement pusher...
-
I believe REAL food supplements (oysters, liver, dairy, fruit, etc.), are the BEST way to regain your health.
-
That being said, food quality sucks in a lot of areas, so for some people, daily nutrient supplementation will be absolutely necessary. For these people, the supplements I mention, may be necessary for more than just travel.
-
When we travel, most of us know our daily/weekly diet will be off. We go out to eat more, our daily habits will be thrown off and we endulge more than normal. Thus, to mitigate some of the travel food damage, it's helpful to keep your nutrients up.
-
This is why I always travel with these FOUR supplements
-
1️⃣ Bulk Nutrition Magnesium glycinate. I like pure Mg glycinate powder. Bulk Nutrition has no additives, no fillers, no preservatives--just PURE Mg glycinate. I take 1/2 tsp. each night for more restful sleep. The additional magnesium also helps with travel constipation.
-
2️⃣ desicatted liver pills. I am HUGE believer in eating REAL liver EVERY single week. Liver is the most nutritious food on this planet, and if you are lacking nutritient support, liver should be apart of yoru diet.
-
Yet, when I travel, finding quality liver can be very challenging, thus the next best thing is a quality liver supplement. I choose due to the HIGH quality and nutritional content. Use code KATE05 for 5% off.
-
3️⃣ Crown Prince Oysters in water. Yep, I bring one can of oysters per week of travel. The can is easy to eat, store, it's cheap and it gives me a nice dose of zinc, copper and selenium to support my immune system. Three oysters a day keeps the doctor away.
If you do not love oysters has a great oyster extract.
-
4️⃣ Vitamin E. Vitamin E is very effective in mitgating the oxidative damage of PUFA. When you eat out, your food will be, more than likely, cooked in some kind of vegetable oil. Taking a capsule of vitamin E, prior to a high pufa meal, can protect against the damaging effects of the oils. Use DEERING15 for 15% off
-
Yes, YOU can still be heathy while you travel!
