Did you know that there is an association between gum disease and heart disease?

Many studies show an as-yet-unexplained association between gum disease and several serious health conditions–including heart disease–even after adjusting for common risk factors.

Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth and is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Below are some of the most important things you can do to avoid gum disease and maintain good oral health (including prevention of tooth decay or cavities):
Brush teeth twice a day with an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste.
Clean between teeth daily with floss or an inter dental cleaner.
Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.

Call 973-227-1820 or stop our office to schedule an appointment with us today.

Although baby teeth will eventually fall out, it's still important to take good care of them. Baby teeth play an important part in helping your child bite, chew food, and speak clearly.

Developing good oral habits while they are young will help them take care of their adult teeth too. Follow these tips to help your child's teeth and gums stay healthy.

Brushing - Brush your child's teeth at least twice a day, and start using toothpaste when he or she is two years old. Make sure you choose a toothpaste that is safe for swallowing, because most young kids will swallow instead of spitting it out.

Flossing - As soon as two teeth touch each other, floss between them once a day.

Visiting the dentist - Visit the dentist for regular cleanings every six months.

Expect some wiggly teeth - At about age six, your child's teeth may start to become loose. Letting them wiggle the tooth until it falls out can reduce the pain and bleeding from a lost tooth.

Call our office today to schedule an appointment at 973-227-1820.
