Holoprosencephaly Awareness Week
🤍
March 22–28
Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is a rare condition that occurs very early in pregnancy, when the developing brain does not fully divide into two hemispheres.
The severity can vary widely, but HPE may involve:
• Portions of the brain that are missing or underdeveloped
• Differences in facial development (such as cleft lip/palate)
• Feeding and breathing challenges
• Seizures
• Vision and hearing impairments
• Developmental and learning delays
Some children are also diagnosed with related conditions such as:
• Pituitary or hormone disorders
• Hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain)
• Heart defects
• Chromosomal conditions (including Trisomy 13)
Many families who receive this diagnosis are told it is “incompatible with life,” and some are encouraged to end the pregnancy. It can even be difficult to find healthcare providers who are willing to care for these precious little ones.
This week, we remember Philip 🤍
A precious baby boy whose life, though brief, had a deep and lasting impact on so many others. He melted hearts. Everyone loved him. We miss you, Philip.
If Holoprosencephaly is part of your story, we would be honored to remember your baby with you.
