If your packaging is moving more air than product, you are paying for it.

Excess void space increases:
– Freight costs
– Dimensional weight charges
– Warehouse inefficiency

Right sizing packaging is not just a design choice. It is a cost control strategy.

Small adjustments in packaging structure can create meaningful savings at scale.

If you have not reviewed your packaging dimensions recently, there is likely an opportunity in your supply chain.

Most companies think packaging costs are about materials. They are not.

Material cost is only one part of the equation.
What actually drives total cost?

– Shipping efficiency
– Product damage rates
– Storage space utilization
– Labor and handling time

A lower cost material can end up costing more if it increases freight, damages products, or slows down operations.

The better question is not “What does this packaging cost?”
It is “What does this packaging impact across the supply chain?”

If your team is evaluating packaging decisions, this is where the conversation should begin.

Choosing the right packaging isn’t just about protection: it impacts cost, efficiency, and your entire supply chain.

Flexible packaging offers:
– Reduced shipping volume
– Lower material and freight costs
– Greater adaptability across products

Rigid packaging delivers:
– Maximum structural protection
– Stability for heavy or sensitive items
– Consistency in storage and stacking

The difference?
It’s not which one is better, it’s which one is right for your application.

If your team is evaluating packaging options, this is where smarter decisions start.

We are happy to report that we are featured in an article on plastic recycling in this month's American Recycler Magazine. While recycling technology has advanced, particularly in the plastics arena, more work remains to build a circular economy.

Paul Harencak, vice president of business development and technical services at LPS Industries, a manufacturer in the packaging industry, said the most significant innovation in today’s plastic recycling initiatives is the ability to use plant-based films for recyclability and composability. These films have the strength and surface printability to offer good graphics and yet comply with sustainable characteristics.

“As for recycling, the work that needs to continue is providing the infrastructure to make it easier for the consumers and end users to find accessible curb side pickups,” Harencak said.

While recycling technology has advanced, particularly in the plastics arena, there is more work to be done to build a circular economy. Not only is more investment required in recycling infrastructure to increase opportunities for recycling, but industry experts need to help consumers recycle. Accor...

We are happy to report that we replaced 1,100 fluorescent and incandescent light fixtures with LED lights at our Moonachie, New Jersey facility.

The project took 2 months and required the contractor to work 16-hour days. During that time, day-to-day operations at the manufacturing plant and corporate offices continued.

Our LPS team now works with better and more diffused light. Studies have shown that LED lights can improve employee moods, boost work efficiency, and enhance work performance.

LPS Retrospective: a milestone

Fifty years ago, LPS secured its future in packing list envelope production by manufacturing all components of its Pres-Quick division internally.

Prior to 1973, there were components of LPS’ Pre-Quick packing list envelopes product line that were outsourced. The backing material, an adhesive coated backing layer with a silicone coated paper protection layer, was purchased from a local vendor as LPS Industries didn’t yet have the capability to produce the backing internally.

John Robinson, LPS’ founder, and Chief Executive Officer, acquired a coating machine and began silicone and adhesive coating the paper internally.

The first packing list envelopes that were manufactured 100% internally were produced on January 17, 1973 as commemorated by this plaque which hangs today at the Moonachie, New Jersey headquarters of LPS Industries, LLC.
