I’m holding Mother Made in my hands for the first time. The book I wrote. Seeing it printed, real, here, feeling it in my hands… I’m teary. Grateful. A little in shock. Final revisions are ahead, but right now I’m just letting this moment sink in. I made this.

Let's talk labor combs. Labor combs are a simple, powerful tool for pain management during labor, and no, they're not for your hair.

These combs work by activating the Pain Gate Theory, when you grip the comb during a contraction, it stimulates nerve endings in the palm that compete with pain signals to your brain. That sensory input helps interrupt the brain's ability to fully process the intensity of a contraction. Simple. Effective. Natural.

Whether you're preparing for birth or supporting someone through it, this tool deserves a spot in your bag.

You can pick one up from me at Knoxville's largest birth expo, the Bumps and Beyond Expo on August 4, hosted by Itty Bitty Ultrasounds

I'll be there - come say hi and check them out in person!

Stillness in the wild.
Me and my littlest boy, grounded in this truth from my book:

“Motherhood isn’t a performance. You will never do it perfectly. You can only do the best that you can.

Drop the shame. You don’t need it.”

You were never meant to mother for anyone’s approval. Just love, presence, and truth.

There’s no one way to be a mother.
There’s no one story that holds it all.
But if you’ve ever loved with your whole being… if you’ve ever broken and rebuilt yourself for someone else…
this day is for you.

To the mamas I know and love—thank you for showing up with fire, softness, courage, and grace.
You are seen. You are honored. You are deeply, fiercely loved.

The moments that stay with me aren’t always the loud ones. They’re the soft, sacred ones: the squeeze of a hand, the quiet breath before a push, the tears when someone says, “I did it.”

This is why I doula.

Because birth is more than a medical event—it’s a transformation.
Because people deserve to feel powerful, held, and heard.
Because there’s magic in being fully seen during one of life’s most raw, real moments.
Because holding space for someone’s courage is a kind of honor that never gets old.
Because birth deserves reverence. And so do the people giving birth.

Testing out the birth pool and how we'll be rearranging our space to make sure everything fits perfectly. Can’t believe we’re less than 20 days away from meeting our little one in this cozy little setup. It’s getting REAL!

Preparing a Backup Plan for Your Home Birth

While my heart and mind are fully set on having a natural water birth in the comfort of our little home, I also know the importance of being prepared for any scenario. With all my previous births, I've never gone past 40 weeks, before 39 weeks, or had any complications—but it's still essential to have a backup plan in place, just in case a transfer to the hospital becomes necessary.

They say that every birth is a different journey, and having experienced this truth four times myself, I can say that there is definitely huge diversity in the way each of my kids have come into the world. I’d love to say that there was a way to predict every twist and turn your birth might take, but that’s not the case. At best, we can only influence birth, but never fully control it.

For my backup plan, I've chosen a hospital nearby where I feel comfortable and confident in the care they provide, should an emergency arise. I've discussed my preferences with my husband and midwife, who would act as my doula, so they can advocate for my wishes if we need to make a hospital transfer. I’ll also pack a small bag with the essentials I’ll want with me, just in case. This way, even though my goal is to birth at home, I feel prepared and empowered no matter where the journey takes us.

For anyone planning a home birth, creating a solid plan gives peace of mind. It's not about expecting the unexpected, but about feeling empowered and ready, no matter where your journey leads. 💪✨

Have you thought about your backup plan? Let me know in the comments how you’re preparing!

Doula Tips: Preparing Mentally for Birth

As I get closer to meeting this little soul, I'm focused on nurturing a peaceful, grounded mindset for my home birth. It’s not just about physical preparation, but creating a space within myself that welcomes the intensity of labor with calm and trust. Unmedicated birth and how you manage in labor is HUGELY affected by your mental state.

Here's how I’m preparing my mind and heart for this part of the journey:

1. Daily Meditation – I take quiet moments every day to connect with my breath and baby, allowing any fears or worries to melt away. I struggle with meditation, it can feel strange and I often feel like I'm "doing it wrong" but taking these little moments to connect with my body and baby really make a difference.

2. Positive Affirmations – I speak life and strength over myself and this birth. Words like "I am powerful," "I trust my body," and "I will meet my baby soon" carry me through each day. I also am creating some hand made birth affirmations to hang around my space and having my bigger kids make me some too.

3. Visualization – Every night I close my eyes and envision the birth I want—seeing myself moving through labor, feeling strong, supported, and ready to hold my baby in my arms. This is a manifestation technique I started with my second baby and carried through the rest of my births.

4. Preparing My Birth Space – Slowly, I’m creating a space in my home that feels like a sanctuary. Warm lights, affirmations on the walls, things that bring me comfort and peace.

5. Postpartum Nesting – Beyond birth, I’m nurturing my postpartum space too. Creating a comfortable area where I can rest, bond with baby, and allow my body to heal with my necessities at close reach.

6. Trusting My intuition – With my support team by my side, Im trusting that I am birthing this sweet babe in the place that feels right for us—home.

If you’ve been following my journey here .tn, you know how much I believe in the power of a peaceful, empowered birth.
