Celebrating Diwali at Perkins in Moorestown today
Diwali is a major Hindu festival celebrated by millions of people across India and around the world. It’s known as the “Festival of Lights”, and it symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
Diwali usually falls between October and November, based on the Hindu lunar calendar. This year the main day is Oct 20, 2025. It’s celebrated over five days, with the third day being the main day of festivities.
Homes are cleaned and decorated with oil lamps (diyas), candles, and rangoli (colored patterns).
Families worship deities, especially Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) and Ganesha (god of wisdom).
People wear new clothes, exchange gifts, light fireworks, and enjoy festive sweets and snacks.
Spiritual meaning:
Diwali is not just about outward celebration; it also encourages introspection, renewal, and gratitude.
