And just like that...October sneaks up on us (Boo!), and we fly into fall like a witch on her broom. Welcome to cooler fall days, college football Saturdays and NFL Sundays, baseball playoff season, firepit evenings, and leaves changing and falling. Check out all the fun fall activities in our Halloween Fun Guide and local events guide and our article on the N.C. State Fair that is starting in a few weeks.
We are excited to highlight the Deal Family of the Canvasback Road community, Brenda & Don and their son Sam, who met at IBM and started as roommates and best friends. Brenda is the founder of the Dove House Children's Advocacy Center, an amazing nonprofit safe harbor in our community for abused children and both are very active in their church and our Mooresville community. The Dove House is also our Lakeside Giving nonprofit spotlight this month. It is also important to mention they are all big Buckeye Fans with Don and his son hailing from Ohio and Brenda from Vermont and N.J. but quickly adopted into the Buckeye traditions.
Also in this month's issue, resident historian Andy Poore of the Mooresville Public Library shares the history of Willow Valley graveyard, Captain John Johnson shares October lake activities, the Town of Mooresville NC highlights our K-9 officers, and our resident teen reporter, Tessa Rosenberg, cracks the code on local escape rooms. Our business spotlight is on Calm Waters Dentistry, Dr. Nick Wentworth and their brand new office at exit 33 at Rte. 21 and Medical Park Road.
Our local experts educate us on various topics, including explaining emotional wellness in seniors by Martin Conway of Homewatch CareGivers, the importance of recovery in your wellness plan by Janet Martin of Your Personal Best Fitness Studio Mooresville, how hearing loss is linked to dementia by Harlan Cato of Beltone Hearing Aid Center, the benefits of energy-efficient windows by Doug Lampert of Renewal by Andersen of the Carolinas, and how to get trail ready and where to ride your off-road ATVs or Can Ams in North Carolina by Susan Newsome of Lake Norman Power Sports.
In addition to all of our local business sponsors, we want to thank and welcome our new sponsors Aruza Pest Control, Window Genie of Lake Norman, and MNS Construction Inc. to the Lakeside Living family! Please use our local sponsors for your home and retail needs, as their support keeps our community publication mailing for free to our Mooresville neighborhoods. If you know any businesses who want to connect in our LKN communities, please share our local magazines with them! Since we are private to the 28117 communities, few businesses know we are here and a great place to advertise.
As you peruse our latest issue with your pumpkin-spice latte or apple cinnamon chai, please remember we welcome all ideas and suggestions, especially for residents we should feature and are always looking for recipes, pets to showcase, Veterans and students to highlight in our special Honoring Veterans and Back-to-School issues, and nonprofits or neighbors who give back for our Lakeside Giving feature.
Happy Fall Y'All!
