PSC cannot stress enough how vital CPR and AED training truly is. In this local incident, a 13-year-old boy collapsed, and thankfully someone on scene knew how to perform CPR. Unfortunately, there was no AED immediately available.

When cardiac arrest happens, every second matters. Early CPR and rapid defibrillation can mean the difference between life and death.

The question is simple: if it happened in front of you, would you be ready to act?

A 72-year-old female was saved by Oregon first responders when she choked on a hot dog

A 26-year-old male from South Dakota choked on steak
A 5-year-old girl from Arizona was saved by a Good Samaritan when she choked on a small toy while at a park.
A 95-year-old male (Alzheimer's) choked on a tiny pill
A 12-year-old boy from New Jersey was saved by a Good Samaritan when he choked on a mint while at a restaurant
A 45-year-old male from Arizona choked on a strawberry yogurt parfait

Through a generous donation of $24,000 from the Iredell Health System Foundation, the purchase of 16 new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) has been made for schools across the district. The gift was made possible through the Foundation’s Cardiac & Vascular Care Fund.

The new AEDs will replace devices that have been in service since 1992 and are well beyond their recommended lifespan. These upgraded units are capable of treating both adult and pediatric patients, which will significantly enhance emergency preparedness and response throughout the district.

This investment reflects a strong partnership between Iredell-Statesville Schools and Iredell Health Systems in supporting student and staff safety. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Iredell Health Foundation and its donors for their commitment to the health and well-being of our schools.
