Did you know men also suffer from dry eye?

Common causes of dry eye syndrome include — aging, hormonal changes, and diets low in omega-3 fatty acids. Environmental factors also play a huge role — low humidity or dry environments can accelerate tear evaporation. Pollution and allergens can lead to inflammation of the eyelids. Infrequent blinking or concentration can reduce the amount of oil released into the tear film.

Our patients who work in the airline industry have greatly benefited in treating their dry eye, or meibomian gland dysfunction, with IPL and heat therapy. Similarly — patients who drive for a living or use computers all day long have reported an improvement in their quality of life after dry eye treatment.

What are you waiting for? Call to schedule a dry eye assessment today.

Best way to treat meibomian gland dysfunction - aka the leading cause of dry eye disease? OptiLight by Lumenis! OptiLight is the *first and only FDA approved* treatment for dry eye management! It is an in-office procedure that uses intense pulsed light (IPL), administered around the eyes, to combat inflammation and improve functionality of the meibomian glands. It has even been shown to regenerate meibomian glands. 🤯

Often, traditional treatments are geared towards reducing the symptoms rather than treating the underlying cause of dry eye syndrome. At QC eye, our doctors know that treating the underlying cause is the only effective way to reduce their patient’s symptoms.

Plus, constantly using eye drops can be laborious and pricey — who wouldn’t love a long-term and drop-free approach?!

DID YOU KNOW — that your eyelids have oil glands? They are called meibomian glands and they run perpendicular to your eyelid margin. These oil glands are responsible for making the lipid layer - or the topmost layer - of our tear film!

Without proper production of the lipid layer of the tear film, many people experience symptoms like burning, watery eyes (crazy right!), red eyes, unstable vision, and overall ocular irritation.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms - or if you’re just curious about your meibomian gland structure - call our office to book an eye exam. Equipped with the latest technology, we are able to image your glands in order to monitor and track function over time. We even have ways to protect them from atrophy over time….
