Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital names Andrew Gross, MD, as Chief Medical Officer. A respected neurologist/neuro-ophthalmologist and long-standing member of the Mooresville medical community, Dr. Gross brings an exceptional blend of clinical expertise, leadership, and a deep, personal connection to the region. A proud graduate of Mooresville High School, Dr. Gross has always maintained a strong commitment to advancing health care in his hometown, making his appointment especially meaningful.
Dr. Gross joined the medical staff in 2014 as the founder of First in Flight Neurology, where he has provided expert care in a wide range of neurological conditions including stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and neuro-ophthalmologic disorders. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is one of the few neuro-ophthalmologists practicing in North Carolina.
His academic background includes undergraduate and medical degrees with honors from West Virginia University, a master’s degree in molecular biology from the University of Wyoming, and advanced training at New York University and Harvard Medical School. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Gross is also a licensed pilot and Aviation Medical Examiner, having demonstrated remarkable leadership by delivering supplies to Western North Carolina following the 2024 floods.
Dr. Gross is the son of long-time family physician Dr. Thomas “Tom” Gross and Rhona Gross. He lives in Mooresville with his wife, Nicole, and their two sons—continuing a proud legacy of service and care in the community.
