From our neighbors and coworkers to the leaders and creators we admire, immigrants help write the story of who we are as a nation — one built on hope, opportunity, and shared dreams.

Every story matters. Every journey adds to the greater story of who we are together.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month — a time to honor survivors, raise our voices against abuse, and stand together for safety, respect, and healing.

Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the United States at some point in their lives. Every year, more than 10 million people experience physical abuse by an intimate partner — that’s nearly 20 people every minute.

Abuse doesn’t always leave visible scars. It can be emotional, financial, verbal, or digital — and it impacts families, workplaces, and communities across every background and income level.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, help is available 24/7:
📞 National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
💬 Text: “START” to 88788
🌐 Visit: thehotline.org

Together, we can end domestic violence.

October is recognized as LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to honor the history, contributions, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.

Over the years, history has shown how understanding and acceptance can evolve. What was once hidden or silenced is now openly discussed and celebrated, reminding us how far society has come in recognizing that every person deserves dignity and respect.

This observance encourages reflection on the struggles and progress that have shaped our shared story — and the importance of continuing to build a culture of inclusion where everyone is valued for who they are.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month — a time to celebrate the achievements, talents, and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome.

•1 in every 700 babies in the U.S. is born with Down syndrome, making it the most common chromosomal condition.
•Thanks to early support, education, and advocacy, people with Down syndrome are now living longer, healthier, and more independent lives than ever before — with an average life expectancy of about 60 years.
•Across the world, many individuals with Down syndrome are thriving in schools, workplaces, the arts, and sports, showing that inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do — it enriches our entire society.

This month, let’s continue to focus on acceptance, opportunity, and visibility. Every person deserves to be seen for their abilities, not their diagnosis.

You never know how much a simple conversation can mean.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Early detection through regular screenings and self-exams is one of the most powerful tools we have against breast cancer. Women should start regular mammograms at age 40, or earlier if there’s a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors. Monthly self-exams and awareness of any changes—like lumps, ni**le discharge, or skin changes—are crucial.

If you notice any unusual signs, or have risk factors, don’t wait—schedule a check-up with your healthcare provider.
