It is officially Foodservice in Healthcare Week, and it’s high time we give our cooks and culinary services aides a round of applause.
Let’s do a little math. If we average around 50 people on our long-term care and rehab side, each of whom are offered food five times a day, and we add that with an average of 35 residents on our assisted living side, who are fed three times a day – that means our kitchen is offering residents of the facility food 355 times each day. Uff-da!
When you look at the experience among our most longstanding staff, there is over 100 years’ worth of experience within the kitchen. Every day, kitchen staff prepare largely homemade meals, as well as making tasty and comforting snacks to be used throughout the day. There is never a shortage of food at St. Clare, and that is in large part thanks to our kitchen staff.
While the kitchen isn’t on the “frontlines” of care, per se, our cooks and aides see the central role that food plays for our residents. It’s not just about nutrients (though that is a big part of it!) – it’s also about memories, comfort, and socialization.

No two days are the same for maintenance team member Roger O. "Things change by the minute." We've been keeping Roger on his toes for two years now. We're especially lucky in that he has a carpenter background, and as a result, Roger has made several improvements around the facility. He appreciates being able to do "some of the simplest things" around St Clare that "will put smiles on faces and make [the resident's] day."

Robyn R., another one of our housekeepers, keeps busy by cleaning rooms in Westview (our rehab wing), as well as common areas. Every Monday, she helps Laurie out in the laundry department-Robyn added she has only missed maybe two Mondays in her nine years with St. Clare. She likes the variety of her job and that she can adjust her day accordingly. Also, "I LOVE THE RESIDENTS!" (She really wrote that in all-caps.) "It's fun talking with them and I know they appreciate it as well."

Cleans and maintain all surfaces within the facility by following housekeeping policies/procedures and infection control guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
High School diploma or equivalent
Must be able to read, write and communicate in English

You can find Diane M up in our assisted living cleaning, where she cleans resident rooms, mops, dusts, and vacuums. You may notice a trend: No person here is untouched by our residents, and we all feel a part of the mission to care for them in all kinds of ways. Diane has been with St. Clare for 17 years, and she exudes our core tenets as a facility, which are compassion, respect, and hospitality. Her favorite part of working here? "Being a part of something so important, and I enjoy our residents."
