It’s not ‘just fatigue’: it’s a cellular energy problem.

Have you ever been told your labs are "normal" while you feel like you’re dragging a lead weight through your day? It’s exhausting to feel dismissed when your body is clearly struggling.

Chronic fatigue isn't a lack of willpower. It’s often a breakdown in your mitochondria: the tiny power plants in your cells. If they aren't working, your "battery" never charges, no matter how much you sleep.

Conventional tests often miss this because they look for disease, not the functional shifts that drain your life force. Dr. Greg Fors, a board-certified chiropractic neurologist, looks deeper into root causes like nutrition, gut health, and toxic load to restart your cellular engine.

The best part? You can get this expert care from home. We are 100% virtual, serving patients throughout Minnesota. No office visits required: just personalized, root-cause care.

Stop wondering why you're tired and start finding answers.

Warmly,
Dr. Greg Fors

Why Chronic Pain and Fatigue Persist—And How Virtual Functional Medicine Can Help

02/16/2026

Have you ever felt trapped in the cycle of chronic pain or relentless fatigue—told “everything looks normal” on labs, yet you know something deeper is at play?
You’re not alone. I’ve met countless individuals who slog through daily discomfort, often managing multiple medications, only to have their symptoms persist. Traditional approaches frequently miss the root cause, leaving many to cope but not truly heal. This is where a new perspective—one that goes beneath the surface—can offer hope.
What Makes Virtual Functional Medicine Different?
Functional medicine looks at your story, your environment, your genetics, and the intricate web that connects gut health, inflammation, hormones, and the nervous system. Through a virtual consult, I’m able to collect your health history, use advanced testing, and guide you in building a targeted plan—no matter where you live, and from the comfort of your own home. That means no travel and no time lost in long waiting rooms.
Why Are Pain and Fatigue So Hard to Treat?
Pain and fatigue often aren’t rooted in one single issue. They can be symptoms of chronic inflammation, gut dysfunction, toxic exposures, stress, or unaddressed infections. If you’ve only been offered painkillers or told to “rest more,” you’ve likely received symptom management instead of true problem-solving.
Painkillers alone don’t address chronic inflammation or hidden triggers
Standard fatigue labs miss nutrient deficiencies, adrenal or thyroid imbalances, and mitochondrial dysfunction
Treatments rarely examine the role of gut health, diet, or stress resilience in either pain or energy
A Root Cause Approach, Wherever You Are
During a virtual consultation, I dive into your unique story and integrate advanced testing when needed—whether that’s food sensitivities, hormone triggers, or hidden infections. From there, we build a plan that goes beyond generic protocols:
Nutrition targeting inflammation and mitochondrial support
Personalized supplements and botanicals based on your data
Restoring gut balance to calm both pain and fatigue
Addressing stress, sleep, and nervous system regulation
Many patients begin to see improvement in both pain and energy within weeks—often after years of struggle. Virtual care allows for ongoing adjustments, continued support, and regular follow-ups, all tailored to your needs, not just protocols.
Ready to Start Your Personalized Journey?
If you’re done with band-aid fixes and want answers that honor the complexity of your body, I invite you to learn how our Virtual Functional Medicine Consultation can help. This isn’t just symptom relief—it’s about identifying and addressing the underlying issues that keep you stuck in pain and exhaustion.
Educational content only; not medical advice. Please consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your treatment plan or starting any new regimen.

Your Heart Attack Risk Isn’t Just a Cholesterol Number—It’s a Whole-Body Story

Have you ever been told at your yearly checkup that your cholesterol looks “fine,” only to still worry about your heart health? If you’ve lost a loved one to heart disease or have a family history of cardiovascular problems, you know how unsettling it is to feel like you’re missing the real story. Too often, people discover their risk only after a major event—because standard labs often miss the hidden drivers behind heart attacks and strokes.

Your Heart Attack Risk: More Than a Number
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming nearly one in three lives. Yet, the most common approach—checking a handful of numbers once a year—often overlooks the real threats. Medications for blood pressure and cholesterol can be lifesaving, but they rarely address the underlying causes that keep damaging your arteries year after year.

The Deeper Drivers of Heart Disease
It’s time to move beyond the “cholesterol myth.” Cholesterol itself isn’t the villain; it’s essential for cell membranes, hormones, and brain health. The real question is: Why is cholesterol being sent to repair your arteries in the first place? The answer often lies in chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, genetic factors like Lp(a), elevated homocysteine, and lasting oxidative stress. These issues can silently injure your artery walls, setting the stage for plaque buildup—even when your basic labs look normal.

Insulin resistance—often present years before diabetes shows up
Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress—accelerate artery damage
Genetic risks like Lp(a) and methylation issues—rarely checked in routine labs
Homocysteine—can act like sandpaper on your artery lining
Environmental toxins and stress—add fuel to the fire

What Your Labs May Be Missing
Standard cholesterol panels don’t tell the whole story. Three people can share the same LDL number and have vastly different risks. What matters more is the number and type of cholesterol particles, whether they’re oxidized, and how much inflammation is present. Advanced testing—like ApoB, Lp(a), homocysteine, oxidized LDL, and insulin markers—gives a far clearer picture of your true risk and where you can intervene.

Personalized, Preventive Functional Medicine
At the Pain and Brain Healing Center, my mission is to identify your real cardiovascular risk early and help you change your health trajectory—naturally, strategically, and personally. Our Virtual Functional Medicine Consultation uses advanced testing and a root-cause approach to uncover what’s driving your risk. Together, we build a personalized plan that addresses not just your numbers, but the whole-body story behind them.

Comprehensive history and advanced labs—no guessing
Nutrition and lifestyle strategies to lower inflammation and insulin resistance
Targeted support for genetic and metabolic risks

Ready to Get the Full Picture?
If you have a family history of early heart disease, rising blood pressure, stubborn belly weight, or want to know your true risk—not just your paper risk—I encourage you to get started with a virtual consultation. You deserve answers that go deeper than a standard panel and a plan that empowers you to take charge of your health—before a crisis happens.

Educational content only; not medical advice. Please consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your medications or treatment plan.

Warmly,
Dr. Greg Fors and the Pain and Brain Healing Center Team.

This is from a doctors education group I belong to, but it explains the issue well. For years, I’ve taught my patients, one of the primary drivers of all cancers is insulin. Fasting insulin is not something that’s usually tested by your primary doctor. You should demand it, usual lab values for insulin go up to 19.However, research shows that you want to keep your blood insulin levels between 2 to 4 to be optimal. Definitely under double digits. The more carbohydrates you eat the more your cells demand insulin. Eventually your cells start to get deaf to insulin, your pancreas responds by increasing insulin levels , in attempt to drive glucose into your cells. This is what insulin resistance is. I tell patients it’s like someone is constantly yammering at you and you finally tune them out. That’s what your cells eventually do to insulin, if you’re eating a high carbohydrate diet.
The issue is that cancer cells are very poor at utilizing aerobic energy production and need to rely anaerobic which is very inefficient. Therefore they need lots of glucose and they need it now. Researcher shown that cancer cells can have 10 to 100 times more insulin receptors on their cell membranes. Why? So they can grab all the glucose they can to keep their cellular growth going. Want to starve them out, lower your blood glucose levels and your insulin levels. And as I’ve mentioned in another post, insulin loves to drive up inflammation in your body, causing you to feel achy and stiff. What’s more, insulin is the second most common driver of cancer cell growth so elevated insulin is a double whammy! So please cut out all sugars and lower your insulin levels by cutting down on carbohydrates.
