At BrightStar Care, every team member brings a unique story and passion for serving others. Shari Maxwell, our Director of Client Care, has been part of BrightStar Care since 2011, helping families find care solutions with warmth, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.

What Healthcare Means to Me:
After a 25-year career with a large insurance company, I chose to dedicate my second career to providing compassionate, comprehensive care through BrightStar Care. My passion for serving others—especially seniors—was shaped by the influence of my grandparents, who lived well into their 90s. They taught me the importance of dignity, respect, and joy in aging, and that continues to guide my work today.

Why Home Care Matters:
I’m proud to be part of an organization that offers every level of care, from caregivers to skilled nursing—for individuals at all stages of life. My commitment deepened after witnessing a dear friend lose their young son to leukemia, when few agencies were equipped to support families like theirs. That heartbreak reminded me why our work matters: we don’t just provide clinical services—we offer comfort, guidance, and presence during life’s most vulnerable moments.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband Mike, my son Dan, going to workout classes with my sister, and being with our dogs, Penny and Piglet. I love what I do because it’s not just a job, it’s a mission!

Staying active and engaged is one of the most important ways older adults can support their mental and emotional well-being. At BrightStar Care of Moraga, we encourage seniors to enjoy time outdoors, participate in community activities, and stay physically and socially connected.

One great way to do this is by joining Lamorinda Village’s Reservoir Walk with Richard Stanton. This friendly walking group meets at the Lafayette Reservoir pergola around 8:50 AM, starting the walk at 9:00 AM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Whether it’s a walk in the park, visiting a local farmers market, or simply getting out in the sunshine, small steps can make a big difference.

At BrightStar Care, our team members share one goal: making a difference in the lives of those we serve. Today, we’re spotlighting Matt Shriner, our Owner and President, who launched BrightStar Care of Moraga in 2007 and has spent the last 18 years leading with heart, vision, and a commitment to quality care.

What Healthcare Means to Me:
My journey began at 16, volunteering through my church with seniors—many living with dementia. Hearing their stories sparked my passion for care. I later worked in stroke rehab and as a physical therapy aide at Stanford Hospital, helping patients regain mobility after surgery. I’ve done the same hands-on work I now ask my caregivers to do. My path also led through healthcare startups, marketing, and pharmaceuticals, but I was always drawn to the human side of care.

Why Home Care Matters:
When I learned about BrightStar Care’s model—combining non-medical and medical care with nurse oversight—I knew it aligned with my vision. I opened our agency wearing every hat: office manager, salesperson, caregiver, IT support, and janitor. Today, we’re the largest home care and home health provider in the East Bay, with over 120 five-star Google reviews. Home care gives people dignity, comfort, and the ability to remain at home, and caregiving is a true skill—especially with Alzheimer’s and dementia care.

Today, we’re spotlighting Christy Wolf, our Director of Nursing, whose passion for senior care and commitment to meaningful, personalized service has touched the lives of countless clients and families in our community.

What Healthcare Means to Me:

I’ve always felt a deep connection to the elderly, which led me to start working in a skilled nursing facility at just 14. From that moment, I knew nursing was my calling. I began my career on a busy trauma floor at John Muir, but quickly realized that home care is where I truly belong.

What I value most is the one-on-one time with clients and their families. Being part of their healthcare journey from start to finish allows for real, lasting connections—and that’s what makes this work so meaningful to me.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve always known I wanted a career that allowed me to care for and help others. We know how overwhelming the responsibility of caring for a family member can be. We once needed help caring for a loved one, and we didn’t know where to turn to give her the quality of care, and the quality of life, she deserved. Compelled by a need to find A Higher Standard of Care that was more dependable, more supportive, more complete, we founded BrightStar Care®. We provide the full continuum of home care for people of all ages, from infants to seniors, as well as medical staffing services for healthcare facilities.
