We all got together at our annual planning meeting to celebrate the birthday of our fearless leader, Matt Shriner! Matt has poured his love and care into Brightstar to ensure that we promote health and wellness to seniors, children and the disabled! Thank you for all of your guidance, leadership and friendship. Dear BrightStars,


On this day of June 19th, I want to take a moment to acknowledge & celebrate Juneteenth.

Earlier this summer, my wife and I took our two daughters to Washington, DC. In our family we are striving for them to learn from and about all history...the good, the bad and the ugly. One of the most impactful museums we visited was the visually stunning African American History museum which is a powerful, somber reminder of man’s inhumanity to man. Though some of this history is taught in school, there are many gaps to be filled and as we walked the multiple floors in the museum focused solely on enslavement, it did not cease to be gut wrenching to read the multitude of stories, historical facts and see artifacts that were used on the enslaved. As I watched my children struggle to understand how atrocities like these could happen, constantly asking “why”, I myself felt challenged to answer that question. In a nation founded on the idea that “all men are created equal”, we most certainly failed by declaring fellow humans as property. While it took more blood, sweat and tears after Juneteenth to make sure all citizens had the same rights, I recognize as a person with great privilege that we still have far to go.

Upon the last rewrite of our handbook and customer agreements, I had not yet added Juneteenth as an observed holiday, but will be doing so starting next year. Thank all of you for choosing to work for BrightStar. We appreciate you and the difference all of you make in the lives of others. My door is always open for anyone who wants to reach out.
