Mrs. Gladys Louise Hensley Davis, 80, of Jefferson passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Westwood Hills Skilled Nursing Center.
Gladys was born on December 26, 1944 in Madison County, NC to the late Matt Ennis Hensley and Alice Louise Grindstaff Hensley.
She enjoyed going to church, and was a member of Mt. Jefferson Baptist Church, as well as singing to shut-ins. She was in the singing group, Joyful Noise out of NC. Gladys liked animals and enjoyed feeding the squirrels. During her working career, she enjoyed doing CNA work with Ashe Generations.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lena Jo Cresey and brother, David Hensley.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Deborah Farmer and husband, Darrel of Jefferson; grandchildren, Darrin Farmer and wife, Brittney of Conover, K. Leah Coleman and husband, Eon of Cork Ireland; great- grandchildren; Allison Riley Farmer, Caroline Grace Farmer, both of Conover; special niece, Felicia Creasey Watson of Greensboro; special friends, Mattie Black of Laural Springs,

A Celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Mt. Jefferson Baptist Church in Jefferson, NC

Mr. Barry Evan Shaffer,65, of Ronda passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital after a courageous 3 ½ year battle with sarcoma cancer.
Barry was born on July 12, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Roger Shaffer and Hilda Lowman Shaffer.
He was a loyal Minnesota Viking and Twins fan, ever hopeful- often disappointed. Barry was a graduate of East Wilkes High School, where he was a National Merit Scholarship finalist and participated in the Revolutionary War Over Mountain Victory Trail, 200 years after his ancestor. He was a double major in Horticulture and Ag / Econ from NC State. He travelled to Albuquerque, NM to watch the Wolf Pack win the 1983 NCAA basketball championship. Barry also earned an MBA in AgriBusiness from Santa Clara University, with his knowledge and expertise, he was able to assist farmers in the USA and abroad.
He enjoyed running and ran races such as the Bay to Breakers, cycling, swimming, traveling around the US and the world, reading, going to classic rock concerts and gardening. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor, brilliant mind, extensive range of knowledge and philanthropy. Even in the midst of cancer treatment, he participated in Hurricane Helene relief efforts.
Barry is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Hilda Lowman Shaffer.
Barry is survived by his father, Roger Shaffer of the home; sisters, Renee Shaffer of Columbia, SC, Lisa Shaffer of Greensboro, NC. He was loved and will be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Thomas was born on December 5,1941 in Wilkes County to Commadore Brown and Malissa “Lissie” Royal
Thomas was in the U.S Army as a Private First Class.
He enjoyed woodworking, making picture frames and furniture.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Cameron Brown; brother, Leonard Brown; sisters, Ruby Sharpe, Charmie Cleary, Pauline Roten, Irene Darnel.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Judy Brown of the home, son, Elliot Brown of North Wilkesboro; brothers, Presley “Press” Brown and wife, Annalee of North Wilkesboro, Ray Brown and wife, Bobbie of Ferguson; grandchildren, Jacob Brown of North Wilkesboro, Sarah Brown of North Wilkesboro, Michelle Brown of North Wilkesboro.

A visitation will be held from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in the Adams Funeral Home of Wilkes Chapel in Moravian Falls, 2109 Moravian Falls Road, Moravian Falls, NC 28654. A Funeral Service will be held at Noon, September 3, 2025 in the Adams Funeral Home of Wilkes Chapel in Moravian Falls. Burial will follow at Mountlawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro.
VFW Post 1142 and North Carolina Honor Guard will be providing Military Honors.
Mr. Brown will be escorted to the cemetery by American Legion Riders.
Rev. Mark Sharpe, Rev. Kerry Nichols will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be, Jacob Brown, Sarah Brown, Michelle Brown, Brooks Anders, Yesica Trejo, Nathaniel Pruitt.

Mrs. Lillian Mae Hartley Hendren, 92, of Wilkesboro, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center.
Lillian was born on February 6, 1933 in Watauga County, North Carolina to Roy Wesley Hartley and Hildreth Alice Laws Hartley.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed when her friends from the community would visit.
Lillian is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oid Homer Hendren; sons, Eric Todd Hendren, Foy Douglas Bolick; sisters, Nancy Isenhower, Vivian Craig, Dolores George.
Lillian is survived by her son, Kenneth Darrell Bolick; grandchildren, Jonathan Hendren and wife, Cassie of Elkin, Taryn Henden of Oregon, Christian Stephens and husband, Elias of Mississippi; 5 great grandchildren, Jayden Stephens, Xoren Stephens, Lillian Hendren, Masen Hendren, Easton Hendren .

Mr. Randy Lee Nichols “Cracker”, 62, passed away on July 4, 2025 at his home in North Wilkesboro.
Randy was born on December 3, 1962 in Wilkes County to Gene Clayton Nichols and Dollie Ellen Wyatt Nichols.
He enjoyed fishing at the river and watching movies.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Sue Blackburn.
Randy is survived his daughters, Lisa Nichols of Millers Creek, Teresa Winters and husband, J.R. of Taylorsville; son, Adam Nichols of Wilkesboro; sister, Pansy Sheets and husband, Jerry of Cricket; brothers, Clayton Nichols of Cricket, Billy Nichols of Cricket, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Mr. Manuel “Herman” Laws Jr., 70, of Boomer passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Ridge Valley Nursing Home.

Herman was born on February 17, 1955 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to Manuel Herman Laws Sr. and Betty Juanita Haigler Laws.

He was a proud dad and granddad. He served with the Boomer Fire Department for 40 years, as chief engineer and board member. Herman spent his spare time outdoors and enjoyed whittling.

Herman is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William “Bill” Laws and a nephew.

Herman is survived by his daughter, Wendy Laws of Boomer and her mother, Teresa Laws; sister, Mary Ann Ellis (Marvin) of McGrady; three nieces; step daughters, Tamra Childress and Tasha Childress of Boomer; step grand-daughter, Faith Little of Boomer and special aunt, Patricia Kirby of Tennessee.

The family will conduct a celebration of life 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Boomer Advent Chistian Church in Boomer.

Pastor David Jones will be officiating.

Mr. John Douglas “Doug” Hamby,76, of Ferguson went to be with the Lord, Monday, June 23, 2025.
Doug was born on August 17, 1948 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to Glenn Deweise Hamby and Annie Lou Cox Hamby.
He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Doug enjoyed being outdoors and hiking, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Charlotte.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne Hamby, RG Hamby and Paul Hamby; sisters, Marshleen Billings, Judy Kilby and Barbara Bowlin.
Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Wingler Hamby of the home; son Brandon Hamby (Jeni) of Elkin; granddaughter, Charlotte; stepdaughter, Susan Shell (Tim) of Hays, four step-grandchildren and 12 step- great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruby Ann Foster Absher,80, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025 at Westwood Hills Skilled Nursing Center.

Ruby was born on March 17, 1945 in Wilkes County to Jasper Vernon Foster and Anna Muriel Dagenhart Foster.

She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. Ruby enjoyed sewing, singing and being with her family. She also worked as a former secretary and a housewife.

Ruby is proceeded in death by her parents; husband, McKinley Wayne Absher; daughter, Laura Renee Triplett; sister, Janice Glass; brothers, Craig Foster, Fred Foster, Rex Foster and great grandson, Kamryn Lafond.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Angela “Angie” Triplett Cheek, Sarah Lynett Triplett Wooten (Kent), Juanima Triplett Minton, Laytin Absher; sons, John Triplett (Andrea) Matthew Triplett; step daughter, Anita Lee; stepsons, Martin Absher (Iris), Michael Absher, 41 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be conducted by the family on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church in Purlear. The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Debra “Sharon” Sine Caudill, 72, of Wilkesboro passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.
Sharon was born on August 4, 1952 in Braddock, Pennsylvania to Ralph Francis Sine and Mary Ellen Dancy Sine.
Her favorite pass time was playing the 12-string guitar and singing.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harry “Happy” Sine and Mark Sine
Sharon is survived by her sisters, Brenda Triplett (David), Lisa Parks (Harvey), many extended family members, and “sister” Diane Roten

Mrs. Mary Lee Greer Rhymer ,78, of North Wilkesboro, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mary was born on February 20 ,1947 in Caldwell County to Robert Dewey Greer and Julia Rose Phillips Greer.
She was a member of Christian Assembly in Millers Creek, she enjoyed reading, sewing and spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Joe Rhymer; son in law Rick Dula; 6 sisters and 5 brothers.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Lisa Rhymer of North Wilkesboro, Julia Dula of Millers Creek. Connie Wolfe (Tommy) of North Wilkesboro; son, Robert Rhymer of Greensboro, granddaughters, Tiffany Absher of Millers Creek, Bethany Rhymer of North Wilkesboro; grandson, Derrick Absher of North Wilkesboro; great granddaughter, MaeLee Absher, great grandsons, Ethan Absher, Joshua Absher; brother-in-law, Glenn Rhymer (Gracie) of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.
