The amazing group of thirteen Peers in these pictures finished the work today to complete and exceed the graduation requirements in the 50+ hour North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist training. We are incredibly grateful to our Instructor, Patty Schaeffer, for guiding us through the “Take Your Heart To Work” curriculum. It taught us the value of our NC Certified Peer Support Specialists roles and the importance of mutual respect, understanding, and communication. We now have healthy and wellness tools in our professional toolbox to help us implement a state of “Heartfulness” in building relationships on the foundation blocks of trustworthiness, effective communication, our recovery story, beliefs, and cultural awareness, to name just a few. We also know how to bridge the gap between systems and people served and help others understand the proper resources when faced with a crisis.

Are you living in a state of wellness and would like more information on how to become an NC Certified Peer Support Specialist? We encourage you to email Jamie@PeerRecoveryCenter.org or visit www.PeerRecoveryCenter.org to determine the next steps.

**Inspiration Through Action: A Testament to Compassion**

Abraham Lincoln once said, "Next to creating a life, the finest thing a man can do is save one." This afternoon, our outreach team experienced the profound truth of this statement firsthand.

During our closing ceremony for the Peers On The Beach program, our peers encountered a gentleman who had been waiting under a gazebo for three long days, hoping for assistance from someone who had promised help but never returned. As his hope began to wane and despair set in, our dedicated peers stepped in. They offered him nourishment and compassion, embodying the spirit of our mission.

Through our collaborative efforts with the Carteret County Post Overdose Response Team, we were able to facilitate his journey to the emergency room, detoxification, and ultimately, treatment. Today, as our peers followed up with him at the treatment facility, they found him smiling—his hope rekindled and his faith in humanity restored.

In a world filled with distractions and challenges, it would have been easy to overlook this individual and move on. Yet, these remarkable peers chose to extend a hand, reminding us all of the power of active listening and the profound impact of dedicating our time to those in crisis.

We are incredibly grateful to serve in this capacity. The collective heart and unwavering commitment of this team are not just saving lives—they are transforming them. We are truly blessed to have such extraordinary individuals among us, whose dedication to passing hope forward makes them, without a doubt, "super peers." Their work inspires us all and reaffirms the importance of compassion in our daily lives. Together, we continue to make a difference, one life at a time.

While downtime is a rarity for our outreach team, we believe that divine intervention often guides us to address pressing needs within our community. Recently, as our team was returning from a meeting, we received a call to assist our Soup Kitchen with a Meals on Wheels route. This presented a wonderful opportunity to support individuals who are homebound and facing food insecurity.

We view this as a chance to extend our compassion, bring joy, and uplift the spirits of those we serve. Our commitment to helping those in need is at the heart of our mission, and we are truly inspired by the impact we can make.

What a fulfilling way to spend a beautiful afternoon—investing in our community and spreading kindness to those who need it most!

Today marks a significant milestone for the Peer Recovery Center. While we are dedicated to being readily accessible to everyone who walks through our doors, we recognize the critical importance of extending our resources to those who cannot reach us. Our commitment to outreach allows us to connect with individuals exactly where they are on their journey.

We are honored to announce our invitation to serve within Carteret and Pamlico Correctional Institutions. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to provide hope and support to those who seek it. A heartfelt thank you to the wardens for entrusting us with this vital mission.

As we look to the future, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Together, we will work to empower individuals enduring long-term incarceration and support those transitioning back into the community. Let us continue to spread hope and healing, making a lasting impact in the lives we touch.

We had an inspiring evening at Celebrate Recovery at Temple Church. It was a wonderful opportunity to foster new relationships and connect with remarkable individuals within our community. We were thrilled to witness two of our team members receive their two-year sobriety chips, marking a truly momentous occasion.

Tonight's experience served as a powerful reminder of the importance of these gatherings, where we continually learn and grow together. As we reflect on the profound words of 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here,” we are reminded of the transformative power of faith and renewal.

John F. Kennedy wisely stated, “Change is the law of life, and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” This highlights the necessity of reflection and the courage it takes to embrace change, even when it may be challenging.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Celebrate Recovery and Temple Church for welcoming our team tonight. Together, we are on a journey of healing and growth, and we look forward to what lies ahead.

🌟 Today's monthly RAI Community Collaborative meeting, held today at The Harrison Center in Downtown New Bern, was a huge success!

Key highlights included an engaging panel discussion facilitated by Major David McFadden from the Craven County Sheriff’s Office. Today's panel topic was "Peer Support Specialist: How Can They Help Support Healthy Recovery Communities?" We were honored to have John Sotirkys, Director of the Peer Recovery Center, as a panelist, representing the vital role of peer support in our community.

Together, we explored how peer support specialists can make a significant impact in fostering healthy recovery environments and provide valuable insights for those seeking support. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful dialogue!

Our peer support specialists are dedicated to working with those that are justice involved at Pamlico County Jail, providing vital navigation, recovery, and mental health services. They extend their support to individuals who can participate in reentry and recovery programs, as well as those who may not have that opportunity. We are grateful for the warm welcome from the staff and their collaboration in ensuring that those in need receive the assistance they deserve. A heartfelt thank you to the Pamlico County Sheriff's Office for their commitment to partnering with us in this important work.
