Meet our August Student Spotlight: Monica Green 💛 What began as a chance encounter turned into something much more. Monica’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience, community, and the unexpected gifts yoga can bring. We’re honored to share her journey with you—read on below ⬇️
“Last December, I was invited to a birthday celebration. What I didn’t expect was that there’d be a gift for me. Jen was there, and after a few minutes of chatting, we realized we had practiced yoga together years ago at another studio. She shared that she now co-owns a studio in Morgan Hill with Paula and invited me to try a class. What she didn’t know was that I had just left a job I loved after 15 years, and my home, once filled with the noise of family, felt quiet and empty as my daughters began their own journeys.
Life had become a little still. But I had something to celebrate: January marked ten years since the start of my breast cancer journey. It was time for something new.
I signed up on January 2. My first class was with Jessica. Afterward, in a rush, I accidentally took Paula’s shoes and bumped into Jessica’s car in the parking lot! Normally, I’d be too embarrassed to ever return but something about this studio felt different. And I was right. Since then, I’ve attended workshops with many of the instructors and love arriving early just to watch the joy around me; friends catching up, moms with their kids, couples practicing together, new friendships forming. It reminds me that we are more alike than different, and we are stronger when we truly see one another.
To the Yoga Collective community: I think you are all the spotlights. You shine on others, even when they don’t realize they need it so they can find their own light again.
Namaste.”
