Institute on Aging

Institute on Aging Institute on Aging (IOA) believes the future should be something to look forward to, at every age.

We bring together pioneering experts, seasoned champions and hands-on caregivers to make growing older better for Bay Area seniors and their families. As the leading advocate for older adults and those who care for them, we offer a broad spectrum of services and support to help seniors maintain their independence as long it is safe to do so. In addition to providing home care and case management s

Caregiver Coaching Tip: Hydration & Dementia

If your loved one resists drinking water, try making it playful:
✔️ Say “cheers” and sip together
✔️ Use a fun or personalized water bottle
✔️ Add hydration through fruits, veggies & other fluids

It’s not just about water—it’s about creativity, consistency, and care.

📺 Meet Zinnia TV—“Netflix for dementia.”

Traditional TV can overwhelm or confuse those living with dementia. Zinnia TV changes that with calming visuals, familiar themes, and slower pacing—bringing comfort and connection to daily care.

At Institute on Aging, we champion tools like Zinnia TV that reflect our Companioa philosophy: creating meaningful, person-centered support for families.

Talking to a loved one about in-home care can be emotional—especially if they feel resistant or unsure.

In this Compassionate Care Tips video, Reed Felder and Alex Kaplan from Institute on Aging share ways to ease that conversation:

✔️ Listen and validate their concerns
✔️ Use gentler language—“helper” or “assistant” instead of “caregiver”
✔️ Reframe the need: “ I could really use the extra support”

You’re not alone in this. The right words—and the right care—can make all the difference.

Choosing home care is about more than services—it’s about connection.

At Institute on Aging Home Care, we believe that finding the right caregiver match is just as important as choosing the right type of care. It’s about trust, comfort, and care that feels personal.
