Blue Ridge includes hospitals in Morganton and Valdese, Phifer Wellness Center, Grace Ridge Retirement Community, and the Blue Ridge Medical Group of physician practices.

This week we celebrated strong, resilient and brave individuals in our community during our 2024 Cancer Survivor Celebration!

Attendees were transported to paradise during this cruise themed event which featured games, photo opportunities, a live band, and dinner. Thank you to all of those who came out to celebrate and to our amazing teammates whose hard work made this event a success.

Let's hear it for our newest Carolina Care Champions, the Sterile Processing Department!

Over the past several years this team has been dedicated to excellence in their department by a diligent commitment to patient safety through implementing and upholding regulatory standards and processes. In this year's Joint Commission survey, the Sterile Processing Department was elaborately celebrated by the surveyor in regard to their commitment to patient safety and process improvement. Our organization is safer and better because of this team!

Play golf for a good cause!

Putting for the Pink is our annual golf tournament raising funds to pay for mammography services for local, under-served women in Burke and surrounding counties. Last year almost $20,000 was raised to provide approximately 110 mammograms!

Congratulations to Golden Gown Award winner Amy Dixon!

Amy's nomination stated: “We have an Independent Living resident who has begun to experience some cognitive decline. While he is still able to maintain his independence, he often loses track of time and misses the lunchtime in the main dining room. Amy has taken it upon herself to call him by noon each day she works to make sure he has a chance to eat lunch with his fellow residents. This is just one example of the kind of caring heart Amy has for the residents here at Grace Ridge.”

Don't forget! Beginning June 3rd, UNC Health Blue Ridge will be starting a Cuddle Program that will be offered to new moms in our Family Center!

During quiet time hours, mothers in the Family Center will have the opportunity to have one of our Blue Ridge Volunteers care for their baby in the nursery while they rest. This service will be available on most days from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. based on volunteer availability.

This week, Burke County Public Health hosted a vital community conversation with North Carolina Attorney General, Josh Stein, at the CoMMA Performing Arts Center. Substance use remains a pressing concern nationwide. This forum, moderated by NPR Addiction correspondent Brian Mann, promoted dialogue and understanding around this complex issue. Attorney General Stein provided invaluable insights and engaged in a meaningful conversation to address substance use disorder.

Following the forum, UNC Health Blue Ridge hosted a breakfast for community leaders to delve deeper into these issues locally with Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. This leadership team also toured our new patient tower, which features a new emergency department and expanded services that will enhance patient care locally.

A big thank you to Dr. Rahul Gupta and Attorney General Josh Stein for visiting our community and addressing our concerns about substance misuse in Burke County. Together, we can make a difference!

Congrats to UNC Health Blue Ridge Surgical Serivces for winning the 'Golden Team Award'!

One patient reported of this team, "The care here has been wonderful, from the very start, and the girls coming up here from surgery to check on me is another example of the compassion and kindness I've been shown. This has been a great experience."

This team goes above and beyond when they round on inpatients from helping the patient to the restroom to repositioning and simply listening to the patients and spending time with them. This team collaborates with inpatient leadership and staff to help meet the needs of this population. They're consistently compassionate, selfless and make patient experience and care a top priority.

We are proud to support the McDowell community by donating an AED to the McDowell County Youth Football League. UNC Health Blue Ridge believes in the importance of safety and preparedness, especially for our young athletes. This donation ensures that in the event of a major emergency, this program is better equipped to respond quickly and effectively, providing the best possible care until EMS arrives. Our newest Carolina Care Champion is Rebekah Elliott, PA!

Marcus, a patient of Rebekah's, recognized her for going above and beyond in her care of him, stating that she came in every hour to update him about his status of being transferred to another facility. He said: "She was very thorough and professional". As a patient of several healthcare facilities in NC, Marcus said he has never received the kind of care that Rebekah provided him.
