We’re on the hill today, meeting with our US Representatives and Senators to persuade against Medicare cuts and burdensome step therapy requirements.

Time for a serious post.

Did you know that there is a planned 8.5% Medicare cut coming to outpatient physician offices in 2023? This is on top of the 2% cut that was enacted earlier this year.

Yes, small practices are potentially looking at a >10% reduction in payments from Medicare. Commercial insurance payers will surely follow, as Medicare sets the precedent for all payments. Combined with record setting inflation and supply/labor costs, this will not be sustainable.

Just like any other small business, if expenses outpace income, the business will not survive. 2023 could be the year that is the "end" of small practices. Larger investor-owned practices and hospital-owned practices may continue to exist given their ability to negotiate contracts due to volume, and the safety net from their financial backers. But the small mom-and-pop shops will be in trouble. We are in one of the only professions that has zero control over our pay rates. We have been living with insurance cuts for years, but not to this degree, and not in this economy.

If you have appreciated the care you received at Foothills Family Dermatology, or would like to support small independent practice in general, please reach out to your Congressional representatives to express the disastrous effect that the planned Medicare cuts could have.

We are urging Congress to stop Medicare payment cuts scheduled for 2023 so physicians can continue caring for patients in our community. These cuts will impact physician practices' ability to cover costs and keep their lights on and doors open for the communities they serve.

HAIR LOSS is a discouraging, frustrating condition experienced by both men and women. It is a complicated issue, as many underlying conditions and reasons can contribute to hair loss.

The first step towards improving hair loss is a visit with Dr. Kim Edhegard or Dr. Anna Edhegard to discuss reasons and potential work-up and treatment for your individual case of hair loss.

Many of our patients benefit from cosmetic PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) injections for their hair loss. The procedure involves drawing a patient's blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the components of the blood, and then extracting the PRP (platelet rich plasma) portion of the blood, which is where all the **growth factors** live.
