From Taylor Ballew, PMHNP
I couldn’t let Mental Health Awareness Week come to a close without this:
What is my “why” is a difficult question. I started in psychiatry when I was a CNA. I knew I wanted to work in the world of mental health, but I wasn’t sure how to start. Throughout time and many excellent mentors, I found myself starting a practice in Morganton, NC; the place I’ve found my home.
We started on the Greenway in Morganton which had one office and a small waiting room. We used furniture from Big Lots and Walmart (some of which we have now).
We bought some coasters on Vista Print with our logo, used stickers from the dollar store to make nameplates and made some horribly embarrassing tik toks.
But in all seriousness, this organization is nothing without our amazing team. This is a team that will not take “no” for an answer when it comes to helping someone. This is a team that has absolutely humbled me in their hard work, dedication to their clients, and love for building community and family. This is a team that makes me incredibly proud each and every day, and I hope to keep pushing forward for them.
