Callie Perez, MA, LCMHC, NCC

Callie is a national certified licensed professional counselor associate. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lenoir-Rhyne University and a Master of Arts in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne as well. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Counseling Honor Society Chi Sigma Iota. “Everyone has a story. Sometimes the story has a happy ending, but often it is a journey filled with ups and downs. You or your child’s story may include depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or family and relationship issues. Talking in a confidential, supportive space can provide the perspective needed to heal and to find hope and clarity again. I can walk alongside you and your child as you navigate challenges within your story. I offer an empathic listening ear and a nonjudgmental perspective. I use a variety of approaches such as CBT, ACT, and offer a holistic view of counseling that takes the whole person into consideration (thoughts, feelings, behaviors, emotions, spirituality, and relationships) When working with children I enjoy using play therapy. Play is helpful for children to process and tell their story. As a Christian Counselor I can offer guidance and insight for the spiritual aspect of your story. Everyone’s journey in faith is different and unique wherever you are on your journey whether you are doubting, questioning, or simply just don’t know where to start, I can help and offer a safe place to process your faith. I look forward to working with you and your family.”
In addition to being a counselor, she currently serves as the Director of Mimosa Christian Counseling Center. She is a mother of two daughters and she has a passion for mission work. She has been on eleven mission trips, including a three month trip to Moldova in 2017. She has been on two mission trips since then to Moldova in 2018, and London in 2019. Callie believes that God has placed in her a passion to integrate her two favorite things, her faith and counseling ability to help those around her who are hurting and in need of help. He also has certification in Christian Counseling from the Psychological Studies Institute. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. My name is David Kneen and I am a biblical counselor with Cold Water Counseling. I am delighted to be contracting with Mimosa to provide biblically faithful care to all who would seek comfort, clarity, and change. I attended Davidson College for my BA in Psychology and then received my Masters In Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002. I’ve had a diverse career, beginning my work with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed kids and at risk teens and their families. I spent 6 years in an acute level 1 trauma and teaching hospital as a medical social worker and then 9 years as a hospice social worker and manager. I finally made it back to counseling, became certified as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and then started my own biblical counseling practice in 2014. Finding biblical counseling was like coming home and I hope I get to do this work for the rest of my life or until all the people are fixed and I get to be a sailboat captain. I work primarily with adults, teens, couples, and families on a variety of hurts, habits, and hangups. I am excited to be of service to you and our community, though I especially love serving the Church and pastors with respect to their own struggles and by supporting them in their ministry to their people. Please reach out! We all need a little help sometimes. Thank you for the opportunity to share and to be of service for the glory of Jesus. Jaime Handley, Office Manager

My name is Jaime Handley and I am a Burke County native of 44 years. After I graduated from Appalachian State University, I went on to pursue a career in teaching for 15 years. While I enjoyed my time in the classroom, I’m so excited to continue to pursue my passion for helping others by working at Mimosa Christian Counseling Center. I've been here just over a year. I am blessed with 3 sons, ages 14, 16, and 17, so I stay busy! When I’m not hiking or traveling with my boys, I enjoy reading, going to the mountains, and going to thrift stores. An interesting fact about me is that I won a writing contest from The Ellen Degeneres Show and was featured on her show in 2010! I look forward to continuing to serve the Morganton Community through my role as the Office Manager of MCCC.
