A little personal note on why supporting postpartum women is so important to me…
When I was postpartum with my first baby (Mac),I was suffering from postpartum anxiety and postpartum OCD. I went untreated for 3 months. The thoughts/feelings I was experiencing were enough to get in my way in my daily life. I honestly thought what I was feeling was “normal”. It wasn’t until I went to a support group in Pittsburgh, PA that I realized what I was going through was far from “normal”. With the encouragement of my family, the leader of the group and the other moms, I got help. With treatment, things really turned around for me.
I went into my second pregnancy armed with mental health knowledge and prepared to get help immediately if needed. I am happy to report I did not experience any postpartum mental health disorders. 🙏🏻
Looking back, I feel bad for that postpartum mama struggling and thank god for the support group (and of course my family and friends). Postpartum is such a vulnerable time full of roller coaster hormones, exhaustion, pressure and figuring out a new identity (oh, and keeping a human who you love more than life itself alive).
I am truly passionate about supporting all postpartum women. If you are struggling, reach out to someone (you can even message me). If you aren’t, check on your mama friends. Oh, and spread the word about the .club 😉💜
