May 5th is International Day of the Midwife.

“Midwives are not only care providers; midwives are also advocates, educators, and fierce leaders. Across all communities and care settings, midwives work to uphold the dignity and choices of individuals and families throughout the lifespan.”

The WVU Morgantown Midwives are proud to serve and support families today and always!

On this International Day of the Midwife, the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) proudly celebrates the essential role of midwives in advancing equitable, high-quality, and compassionate care for all.

Midwives are not only care providers; midwives are also advocates, educators, and fierce leaders. Across all communities and care settings, midwives work to uphold the dignity and choices of individuals and families throughout the lifespan. With clinical excellence and a deep commitment to person-centered care, midwives improve outcomes and help strengthen the health of our nation.

At ACNM, we honor the profound impact of certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives across the United States. We recognize the tireless work of our members and midwifery partners who continue to lead with courage, compassion, and evidence-based care—even in the face of systemic challenges.

Today, we also renew our call to action: to invest in midwifery education, dismantle barriers to midwifery practice, and build a healthcare system where midwives are recognized, valued, and fully integrated throughout our nation’s care continuum.

To all midwives, thank you. Your work changes lives. Your voice helps shape the future of healthcare. And today, we stand with you in celebration and solidarity.
