A New Year… A Healthier You.

Important Reminder going into the New Year to follow recommendations for cancer screening tests.
Screening for cancers can help find these diseases at an early stage, when treatment works best. When cancer is detected at the earliest stages, treatment is more effective and survival drastically improves.

Lung Cancer Screening Program
You may need this test if you: Have symptoms of a breathing problem such as shortness of breath, wheezing, and/or coughing. Have a chronic lung disease. Cigarette smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer. Risks also include breathing secondhand smoke, being exposed to substances such as asbestos or radon at home or work, and having a family history of lung cancer.

Dr Hayanga and the organ transplant team hard at work saving lives.

Committing to be an organ donor is a generous decision that can save the lives of up to eight individuals. Almost anyone, regardless of age, race or gender, can become an organ and tissue donor.

Receiving an organ is a life-changing life saving event. It can also help a family work through the grieving process and deal with their loss by knowing their loved one is helping save the lives of others.

Unfortunately, the need for organ donors is much greater than the number of people who actually donate. Every day in the United States, 21 people die waiting for an organ and more than 107,380 men, women and children await life-saving organ transplants.

If you are not yet registered to be an organ donor and would like to be here are three ways to sign up:
* Sign up online now in your state. You may need your driver’s license/ID number to fill out a form.
* Visit your state local motor vehicle office.
* Sign up through the Health app on your iPhone. Your information is sent to a national computer system.
* Sign up through WVU University Ruby Memorial

More than 3,800 people in the US are on the waiting list for a heart transplant. Many others facing advanced heart failure don’t know that a life-saving heart transplant is an option. No one should have to travel far for necessary medical treatment. That’s why we’re pioneering new techniques a...
