Topic: WVABLE Program and Building Financial Stability for Your Child's Future

Please join the weekly Circle of Parents support group on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. EST as we welcome WVABLE Program Director Roxanne Clay as a guest speaker!

Register for 4/28 Circle of Parents Meeting

Planning for your child’s future just got easier. WVABLE is an important financial planning tool made possible by the federal Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act. The law recognizes the extra costs associated with living with a disability and raising a child with a disability, and aims to ease financial strains by making tax-free savings accounts available to cover qualified expenses which includes any expense that support the child’s health, independence and quality of life. Now with WVABLE, eligible individuals and families can save and invest above the $2,000 imposed asset limit without losing eligibility for certain government benefits that are critical to their health and well-being such as SSI and Medicaid.

During this session, we will discuss:
• Key benefits and important features of the program
• Simple steps to open and grow your child’s savings
• How to easily access funds to pay for qualified expenses
• How the accounts incentive employment for individuals with disabilities
• 2026 updates, enhancements, and incentives
There will be a Q&A at the end of the session.

Circle of Parents support groups are free of charge and foster an exchange of ideas, support, information and resources.

Every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., parents can meet online with the Circle of Parents group to share information, resources, laughter and support! For your safety and security, registration is required.

Often the best advice comes from another parent who shares a similar experience…what was the best advice another parent gave you?

💬 Finish the sentence…

The best advice another parent ever gave me was:
“________________________.”

As parents and caregivers, some of the most meaningful support comes from someone who has been there.

Share the advice that helped you the most — it might be exactly what another parent needs to hear today. 💙

The Neurodiversity Tree is a visual representation of the neurodiversity umbrella — a concept that recognizes the wide range of ways the human brain can develop and function.
Under this umbrella are many different neurological differences, including autism, ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette syndrome, bipolar disorder, and more. Each leaf on the tree represents one of these identities, highlighting that neurodiversity is not one single experience, but a spectrum of many.
Just as no two leaves are exactly alike, no two individuals experience neurodiversity in the same way. Yet, all are connected — growing from the same foundation and contributing to the strength and diversity of the whole.
This tree serves as a reminder that neurodiversity is not a deficit, but a natural variation of the human experience — one that deserves understanding, inclusion, and acceptance.

This year's World Down Syndrome Day theme asks for us all to stand "together against loneliness." Why loneliness? According to studies, people with intellectual disabilities are 7 times more likely to be lonely than people without disabilities.

Loneliness can happen when people don't feel supported, or when they experience stigma or discrimination at home, school, or in the workplace. How can we help everyone feel welcomed, including people with Down syndrome or intellectual disabilities? It starts with good friendships and relationships, and helping others feel connected and valued.

- Real inclusion: To be truly included in schools, jobs, and community life. Not just “being there,” but taking part.
- Welcoming spaces: To feel welcome and valued, to be invited to join in, and to be safe from stigma.
- Meaningful relationships: To have strong, supportive, and meaningful relationships with friends, family, and partners.

Another way to make sure everyone feels welcome is to stop using harmful language. The Just Evolve campaign is doing a great job of educating everyone on how using disability-related words as insults is a thing of the past.
