I just wanted to give a tremendous shoutout to all of the amazing people I know who ran the PGH Marathon and Half Marathon Sunday.
What you did was an incredible display of strength, endurance, and determination. I’m so proud to see so many of you out there doing great things. Amazing work, you guys!
Side note: I’m definitely having some serious FOMO — and maybe I’m a tad bit jealous too. 😂
I also got asked a pretty universal question today, and I wanted to answer it broadly because I think it applies to many of us post-race.
You’re sore — and you’re probably going to be sore for a few days.
Take advantage of the growth opportunity your body is in right now.
Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat as much protein as you’re comfortable consuming.
Your body is beat up, but over the next 72 hours, it has a powerful opportunity to repair muscle, bone, tendons, and connective tissue — and come back stronger.
This especially applies if this was your longest distance yet. Long efforts create micro-stress, muscle damage, and tendon/bone adaptation signals that, with proper recovery, can help you become a stronger, faster, and more resilient runner over time.
Congratulations to all of you. Amazing work this weekend, all around. I’m genuinely thrilled to have so many of you around me to admire.
