The Force was strong with us today ✨

To celebrate May the 4th, we were joined by the 501st Legion—including a Jawa and Captain Rex—bringing a galaxy far, far away right to our patients and families. These special visitors helped create unforgettable smiles and out-of-this-world moments for our kids. 💫

Thank you for turning an ordinary day into something truly stellar.

We’ve all been there… your child wakes up on a school day and doesn’t feel well 🤒

So, do you send them to class or keep them home? Let’s “Ask Dr. Jeff.”

A good rule of thumb: keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or symptoms that make it hard to participate in class.

We were honored to celebrate alongside our colleagues at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center for the very first Spring Soirée. 🌸

Because of our incredible community partners, we raised an amazing $154,616 to support pediatric care in the Eastern Panhandle.

This partnership means more children can receive world-class care close to home—right where they belong.

Patients like Miracle Child Micah Summey remind us why this work matters every single day.

We’re deeply grateful for the support that makes moments like this possible—and for the brighter, healthier future we’re building together for our kids. 🌟

🌸 Spring is the perfect time to get outside and play! A safe day at the playground starts with a few simple steps to help children have fun while staying protected. 🛝💙

Supervision Matters:
• Actively supervise children while they play
• Check equipment for hazards like rust, broken parts, or unsafe surfaces
• Teach children to avoid pushing, shoving, or crowding on equipment
• Remove necklaces, scarves, drawstrings, or loose items that could get caught
• Younger children should play in areas designed for kids under 5

Choose a Safe Play Environment:
• Avoid playgrounds with hard surfaces like asphalt, concrete, grass, dirt, or gravel
• Look for safer surfaces such as mulch, sand, shredded rubber, or synthetic turf
• Make sure swing areas have enough protective surfacing in front and behind the swings

Falls are the most common type of playground injury, which is why supervision and a safe play space are so important.

Safe play means more smiles, more memories, and more fun this spring! 💙

🎧 Now Streaming on Live Healthy West Virginia: Autism Acceptance — Listen, Learn, Include 💙

At WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s, we’re all about helping kids be kids—and that means creating a world where every child feels seen, supported, and included. In this episode, Dr. David Huss from our Neurodevelopmental Center shares what autism acceptance really looks like for families across our state.

Did you know? 1 in 31 children in the U.S. have Autism Spectrum Disorder, and each child’s journey is uniquely their own. This conversation is a reminder that understanding and inclusion can make all the difference.

What a special weekend for our kids!

We’re so thankful to Coach Rodriguez, WVU Football, and all of WVU Athletics for showing up in such a meaningful way at the Gold-Blue Spring Showcase and helping create moments our patients and families will never forget.

We also honor the legacy of Coach Don Nehlen and his late wife, Merry Ann, who started this incredible tradition, and everyone who has continued it for more than 40 years in support of WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s.

Support like this helps us continue bringing world-class care close to home for families across West Virginia.

Counting down the days until football season — Let’s go Mountaineers! 🏈💙💛

Middle-of-the-night kid concerns? We get it.

That’s why you can now "Ask Dr. Jeff" — your go-to for answers to the questions every parent looks up at 2 a.m.

First: When is a fever actually something to worry about?

Dr. Jeff says to remember that some high fevers in older kids can be treated at home. If they have difficulty waking, severe headache, trouble breathing, or dehydration, consider evaluation in the ER.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month 💙 and at WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital, we are committed to protecting children and strengthening families across West Virginia.

Throughout the month, you may notice blue pinwheels “planted” at desks across WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital — a symbol of the safe, happy childhood every child deserves.

West Virginia continues to face significant challenges, with child abuse rates higher than the national average. Prevention starts with awareness, early recognition, and a willingness to act. It’s something we can all be part of — by supporting families, staying informed, and speaking up when something doesn’t seem right.

At WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital, a dedicated team of specially trained professionals responds to every concern, providing comprehensive care, coordinating support services, and helping children heal. Through collaboration, education, and evidence-based tools, WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital is continually working to strengthen how abuse is identified and addressed.

Small actions can make a big difference:
👂 Listen to children
💙 Believe them
📣 Speak up

If you suspect a child may be experiencing abuse, contact local law enforcement or call the WV Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline at 800-352-6513.

Together, we can help create safer, stronger communities for every child.
