“Methadone is an evidence-based medication backed by 50 years of research that cuts the risk of fatal overdose by 50 percent and is particularly important given the ubiquity of fentanyl in the drug supply,” ACLU-WV Legal Director Aubrey Sparks said. “West Virginia should not be discriminating against people in recovery by arbitrarily denying them this lifesaving medicine, now more than ever.”

Sarah Stone, co-director of SOAR-WV, explained that methadone is vitally important because it is the only medication for opioid use disorder that fully activates the opioid receptors in the brain. “For that reason, it allows people who are using powerful opioids like fentanyl to begin recovery treatment without first going through painful and dangerous withdrawal symptoms that increase the risk of relapse and death,” she said.

February 19th I celebrate another trip around the Sun. And ALL I WANT for my Birthday this year is to raise $325 ASAP for MATSA so we can help 3 of our folks who are in URGENT NEED Mutual Aid.

2 of our folks NEED Dollars 4 Dosing funds to STOP Feetox & 1 of our folks needs funds to meet her rent & avoid eviction.

🦋 $210 - ASAP to cover past due balances by 800a Weds Feb 18th
Jaina & Laurel NEED mutual aid funds to cover their past due clinic balances after abruptly losing their Medicaid. This morning they were hit w/ the news that their Medicaid was interrupted 2 weeks ago leaving them each w/ $105 past due on their accounts. If they're unable to bring their accounts current, they will start FEETOX as of tomorrow morning, Weds Feb. 17th. That means a 10% dose decrease for 10 days. After 6 years on MMT, this is terrifying for them. Theyre able to cover their daily fees but cant afford to pay the past due balance(s).

🦋 $115 - by Weds Feb 18th @ noon Jessie is in URGENT NEED of Mutual Aid funds to help her cover rent & STOP her landlord from initiating eviction. Shes a single momma w/ 2 kids doing all she can to make ends meet. This month shes just a little short on the rent after having to.miss work bc one of her kiddos was sick. Shes reached out to local agencies & resources but has still come up short. She desperately needs our help.

‼️🦋 URGENT Mutual Aid NEED ASAP

Can you help us raise $180 ASAP to help us cover clinic transportation ($50) for 1 of our folks by 600a & 2 nights of temporary motel housing ASAP ($130) for 1 of our unhoused families as temperatures drop?!

$130 - in Mutual Aid funds are needed to keep Jade & their family temporarily housed for TONIGHT & tomorrow night as temperatures plummet. Their current living situation is far too dangerous & theyre out of options. We NEED to get them sheltered ASAP. We hv a motel room for them @ roughly $60 per night. And URGENCY is HEAVY at the moment for this family. Help us do what we can to keep them safe & warm.

$50 in Mutual Aid is needed to get Kayla, our parenting & pregnant (high risk) momma to & from her clinic in the morning @ 630a. Shes FINALLY getting her 2 week takehomes reinstated as of tomorrow BUT the snow storm has left transportation options scarce. And this $50 is the difference between access to her medication she desperately needs, or going without it. And we cannot let that happen.

We know things are so difficult for so many of us. Far too many in our community are losing access to life saving medications, support & services.

MATSA will continue to do what we are able, but we cant do it without your help.

Kayla, one of our pregnant & parenting mommas, is in URGENT need of funds THIS morning to travel round trip from rural Arkansas to her clinic in Tennessee.
