Today we celebrate mothers โ the women who give life, fight for their families, love fiercely, and carry the world on their shoulders with grace and strength. In Norse mythology, there is one goddess who perfectly embodies everything a mother represents: Freyja.
Queen of the Vanir, goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and war, Freyja is far more than just a pretty face. She rides into battle on a chariot pulled by two giant cats, claims half the fallen warriors for her own hall Folkvangr (because she refuses to let Odin have all the glory), and protects what she loves with unyielding power. She weeps golden tears for her missing husband รรฐr, showing that deep, passionate love and vulnerability are not weaknesses โ they are the heart of her strength.
Freyja reminds us that motherhood is both tender and fierce: it is the magic of creation, the courage to fight for your children, the wisdom to nurture and guide, and the independence to stand tall even when the world tries to break you. She is the ultimate symbol of a motherโs love โ beautiful, powerful, protective, and unbreakable.
So today, whether youโre a mom, have a mom, or know an incredible mother, raise a glass (or a horn of mead) to Freyja and to every mother who carries her spirit.
To all the mothers reading this: you are seen, you are celebrated, and you are as legendary as Freyja herself.
Whatโs one way your mother (or you as a mother) shows that perfect blend of love and strength? Share below and letโs honor them today! ๐
