Kicking off our yearly Cadaver Lab Series with a full house! This morning’s focus: Head & Neck dissection with oversight by our craniofacial surgeons Drs. Uygur and Brooke.

We always start strong—carpooling in together (yes, all of us in one car!) and fueling up with a quick breakfast before diving into the lab.

Great hands-on teaching, even better teamwork. Let the series begin! 💪🧠

📢 New Publication Alert 🚨
As part of our ongoing efforts to critically evaluate and evolve our residency training, we took a comprehensive look at how integrated plastic surgery programs structure their rotations nationwide.

Our findings are now published in the Journal of Surgical Research:
“Comprehensive Rotation Analysis of Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency in the United States: Clarification of Rotation Metrics.”

By understanding national trends and variation — even within the framework of standardized guidelines — we aim to continually refine our own educational model.

We had a lovely time celebrating yesterday at with our plastic surgery family. He will soon begin his career as an attending at United Health Center in Bridgeport, WV, and remain within the WVU Medicine system!

It wouldn’t be graduation without an appearance from the pig that routinely walks the rail trail adjacent to the restaurant! 🐷🐖

WVU Surgery Park Day tradition — once a year, all of us in one place without a pager going off. A rare chance for all the residents across the Department of Surgery to come together for good food, cold drinks, and some well-earned time off.

WVU Plastics showed up strong at the WV ACS Meeting!
We kicked things off with an incredible plastic surgery luncheon, featuring Dr. Hayes from CAMC, who shared his expert experience on complex pelvic reconstruction. Huge thanks to for hosting this valuable session!

A special congratulations to our PGY-2, Dr. Niki Patel .md , who represented us in the research competition for both general and oncologic surgery—and took home the win in the oncologic category! Her presentation on Indications of the LICAP flap in axillary reconstruction was a standout.
