Did you know that we created the Cathy Yura scholarship fund 6 years ago in partnership with WVU Collegiate Recovery ? This scholarship helps a WVU student in recovery continue their education.

This scholarship celebrates it's namesake Cathy Yura, whose amazing work as a psychologist and former director of the WVU Collegiate Recovery program continues to inspire many in our community.

You can help us keep this tradition alive for years to come. Donate using the button below, or the fundraiser linked at the top of our page.

If you see Ashley McElwee today, wish her well on her new adventures! Ashley started her journey with WVSL as a participant in our recovery housing program. Four years ago she joined our staff, and continues to do amazing things every day.

"Every step of your recovery journey has made the world a better place," is a sentiment shared by so many of the people who know and have worked with Ashley. With a brilliant mind and a heart of gold, Ashley's contributions to our organization and the state of West Virginia are too numerous to count.

We are so proud of every step you've taken, and deeply thankful to know you. Your presence in the Tennessee Ave office will be missed dearly. Congratulations on your new position and we wish you all the best in the future! We can't wait to see what comes next. 💛💛

Our Story | WVSL

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER & PRESIDENT, DOUG LEECH

Substance use disorders have become so prevalent in West Virginia and have affected so many families. West Virginia Sober Living has been instrumental in offering structure and support for those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction in our region. We have formed a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, West Virginia Sober Living, Inc., that is designed to reintegrate recovering individuals back into the community.

Men and women residents in the program live with us for a period of six to 12 months and will begin to develop strong relationships and demonstrate transparency in their daily lives as they maintain accountability to the group. The West Virginia Sober Living program is centered on the principles of 12 Steps. Through the program, residents will gain independence and responsibility, both financially and emotionally, as they become the person they want to be, which is the ultimate goal. West Virginia Sober Living provides a safe, caring and supportive environment for residents to begin living a sober lifestyle and developing healthy new relationships in the region’s active recovery community.

We accommodate individuals that have been through primary treatment and desire a sober living environment as they progress in their recovery. Residents are expected to remain drug and alcohol free, actively participate in a 12-step recovery program and work, volunteer or be enrolled in school full-time.
