The West Virginia University General Surgery Residency Program provides a well rounds experience in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients in all areas of general surgery for the people of West Virginia, southwestern Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and eastern Ohio. The primary site of clinical educational experience is at WVU Hospital, which is a tertiary care center and is ranks #1 hospital in West Virginia by U.S. Johnson Veteran Administration Hospital for general surgery and Baylor University Medical Center for transplant surgery. The General Surgery Residency Program is fully approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Other nationally ranks centers at WVU include
The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center is recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center is an American College of Surgeons Level 1 Trauma Center. WVU Bariatrics is a Level 1 Accredited Bariatric Center by the American College of Surgeons. WV Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (WV STEPS) is accredited by the SSH Council for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs.
