Bonnie Susan Jacques

Bonnie Susan Jacques was the hostess that never let anyone invited to our home leave hungry. More often than not they left with containers of food for another day. She always made far more food than was needed for the occasion. And the food was delicious. She also welcomed clients and patients into our veterinary hospital with smiles and a caring attitude that helped make our patients more comfortable. She spent many a late night assisting the veterinarian with late night emergencies and was always willing to help. With her assistance in surgery and emergency treatments, many pets were able to go home to their owners. She was a large part of our veterinary practice in Donnelly and before that in Maryland.

Bonnie was a horse enthusiast having raised horses in Maryland. She became familiar with the warm blood horses and spent many a night helping the mares with their foaling. She did not get involved with showing horses, she was more enthusiastic with the raising them. Her love of horses began as a young girl and continued throughout her adult life. Her other passion was chickens. She had names for every one of them.

Bonnie is succeeded by her husband, Earnest (Ted), Brother John Stuart Hoverman, son Peter, daughter Amy and 4 granddaughters. She passed away on April 12, 2026 at the age of 77 in Tijeras, NM in the presence of her husband and daughter. She loved Idaho, our home for 21 years, and the people she befriended.

Donald Eugene Schwebach

Donald Eugene Schwebach was born in Oakley, Kansas on October 9th, 1937 and passed away on March 27th, 2026 of natural causes. He was born to Eugene James Schwebach and Clara Weigel Schwebach, and is survived by his five siblings Rita and Charles Lamb, Catherine and Jerry Gilmore, Jim and Peggy Schwebach, JoAnn Gabel, and Michael and Diane Schwebach. He was married to Martha K. Schwebach, the nation’s first Family Nurse Practitioner, for almost 65 years before her passing eight months ago. Don and Martha had four children Doug (Laura Jean), Cyndi (Todd Schatzman), Daryl (Matthew Rodriguez), and Dean (Ivellise) Schwebach, along with twelve grandchildren, Lauren and Justin; Steph, Carson and Grant; Christina; Nathan, Ellysia, Dominic, Addie, Thomas and Elena, and five living great grandchildren with three more in heaven.

Don served with the New Mexico Army National Guard 111th Brigade after his basic training at Fort Ord California, shortly after he was married in 1960 and moved to Moriarty. He was active reserve duty and honorably discharged in 1966 after amputating two fingers in a farming accident. He owned and operated the Schwebach Farm in Moriarty for nearly 45 years before selling it to his son and daughter in-law, Dean and lvellise, and was known primarily for his pinto beans and famous “Moriarty Sweet Corn” frequently documented by the Albuquerque Journal. He received the “Business of the Year Award” in 1998 from the New Mexico Main Street Program, was a Charter founding member of the Moriarty Lion’s Club in 1971, and held office as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasure throughout two decades of involvement. Don was well known for his “pit Bar-B-Que” at the annual Moriarty Fourth of July parade for many years, and he was Grand Marshall of the Pinto Bean Fiesta Parade with Martha in 1996. He was a member of the Moriarty Planning and Zoning committee, as well as the Knights of Columbus, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. He was well known for his hard work ethic, which he instilled in his children.

After retirement, Don and Martha spent 13.5 years in their RV travelling across the nation, visiting state parks and enjoying their grandchildren for the holidays. Don always made sure they arrived back on the farm each year in time for the annual harvest to enjoy roasted sweet corn at the market and catch a game of dominoes, known as “42,” with his family. He finished his years out with a beautiful view of the mountains in Albuquerque. Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. His smile, stories, and wry sense of humor will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

If you would like to send condolences or share a memory of Don, you can do so on the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary website, www.harris-hanlonmortuary.com. Funeral services will be in Moriarty at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on Friday April 24, 2026 with the reciting of the Rosary at 10:00 am followed by the celebration of the Christian Mass at 11:00 am followed by the burial at The Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, in Moriarty, NM.

When a child loses someone important to them, the world can suddenly feel confusing and uncertain. Children often experience grief differently than adults, and they may struggle to understand or express what they’re feeling.

During times like these, patience, reassurance, and open conversation can make a meaningful difference. Letting children ask questions, share memories, and talk about their emotions can help them begin to process the loss in their own way.

If you’re looking for guidance on how to support a child who is grieving, you can learn more by visiting: https://www.funeralbasics.org/teaching-child-how-to-process-grief/

Theresa "Terri" Arlene Valdez

Theresa (“Terri”) Arlene Valdez joined our Heavenly Father on April 2, 2026 after enduring a long and courageous health battle at the age of 65. Terri was surrounded by her devoted husband of almost 42 years, Felipe and her two daughters. Terri was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, and friend.

Born and raised in Los Alamos NM, she grew up with her parents, three sisters and brother. She was a graduate of the Los Alamos High School class of 1978 and was an early graduate as a junior. She worked for National Defense Contractors for both Los Alamos and Sandia Labs and ended her career with Peacock Law Firm. She was an intelligent and ambitious person. Terri was described as a hard worker who put her heart and soul into any job she held.

She met Felipe, the love of her life, when she was just 24 years old. They moved to Edgewood, NM and started a family shortly thereafter. Raising her two daughters Elisha and Darlene gave her so much joy. Terri was a nurturing and compassionate mother who was a strong protector.

Her talent for sewing and crocheting was a lifelong gift that remained a source of comfort and purpose throughout her final days. Even while receiving care, Terri’s focus remained on others. She often surprised her nurses with crocheted gifts and delighted in crafting something special for anyone she knew was expecting a child.

Her own heart found its greatest peace on the water. She cherished every moment spent fishing alongside her husband, finding joy in the quiet companionship and the simple beauty of a day spent together on the lake.

Terri was a true “hands-on” grandmother. From baking and painting with her granddaughter to catching grasshoppers and lizards with her grandson in the backyard. She loved to meet up with friends or family for lunch, shopping, or going to the movies.

She also volunteered many hours at the Bethel Community Storehouse in Moriarty. Terri was a devout Catholic, and even through her challenging health journey, her faith in God and commitment to our Lord never ceased.

There was a magnetic kindness to Terri; her spirit was so welcoming that people were instinctively drawn to the light she shared through her smile. Her vibrant personality and liveliness made people feel comfortable to be around. Terri will be known for her sense of humor, thoughtfulness, bravery, unwavering strength and faith. Her kind spirit made everyone feel like family.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Felipe, and her daughters, Elisha (Noah) Parraz and Darlene (Edward) Lopez. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Lucas and Eryn. She is also survived by her mother, Virginia Romero; siblings Fermin Romero, Jeanette Romero, Cathy Fresquez (Bennie), and Stella Romero; brothers-in-law Mike Valdez (Anna) and Frank Valdez (Diann); and her special cousin, Michelle Perea, along with their respective families, many loving godchildren and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Fermin Romero; her father-in-law, Severino Valdez; and her mother-in-law, Reggie Valdez. Godson Isaac Wildenstein.

Gone But Never Forgotten!

A celebration of Terri’s life will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Edgewood on Saturday April 18, 2026 with rosary being recited at 10:00 am followed by the celebration of the Mass at 11:00 am. If you would like to send flowers, please attach her name and send them to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.

Margie Ann Moore

June 10, 1952 – March 20, 2026

With broken hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Margie Ann Moore, lovingly known as Mickie or Mick, who passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, at the age of 73. The world feels a little dimmer without her in it, and the hearts of those who loved her will never be the same.

Margie was born on June 10, 1952, and spent her life devoted to the people she loved. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose strength, kindness, and gentle soul touched everyone blessed enough to know her. She gave of herself freely, always putting others before herself, and her love was the kind that made people feel safe, wanted, and deeply cared for. Family was the center of her world, and there was nothing she treasured more than the moments she spent surrounded by those she loved.

Margie was preceded in death by her beloved children, Chantell, Stormy, and Charles, whom she loved beyond words. Though she carried the pain of their loss, she continued to love fiercely and hold her family close.

She was also preceded in death by her father, George, and her mother, Marion, along with her siblings George, Donald, Richard “Dickie,” David, Ronald, Dale, Terry, Susan, Elaine “Bootsie,” and Charlotte.

Margie is survived by her beloved son, Michael Hearn, and his partner, Eric Lungren; her sister, June, and her husband, Daniel Mariani; her sister, Kathleen Olson-Mathes; her granddaughter, Savannah, and her husband, Ryan Manetz; her granddaughter, Aspen Moore; her grandsons, Keith Hearn and Dustin Hearn; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Parker and Cooper. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her kindness and love.

Though our hearts are shattered, we take comfort in knowing that Margie is now reunited with the loved ones who went before her, especially the children she missed so dearly. We can only imagine the joy of that reunion and the peace she has finally found.

Her memory will live on in every story shared around the table, every laugh that echoes through the family, every tear shed in her honor, and every act of kindness inspired by the beautiful life she lived. The love she gave will never leave us.

She will be forever loved, forever missed, and never, ever forgotten.

Judith Akin Smith

Judith Akin Smith, age 53, passed away at her home in Edgewood, New Mexico, on March 13, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held at Lantern Ridge Farm Market on April 21, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.

Judy had an enormous heart and an extraordinary capacity for love. The greatest love of her life was her husband, Bryan, whom she met at Sunset Ranch in Los Angeles. From that moment on, they were inseparable—true soulmates in every sense. They were together 25 years and married for 22 years. Judy’s final words to Bryan were, “I love you.”

Animals were central to Judy’s life. She loved and cared for rescued dogs and cats, creating a joyful and welcoming refuge for them all. She especially adored her horse, Tank. Judy began riding Tank as a teenager at Sunset Ranch, and their bond was so strong that Tank became hers, living out his years peacefully at her ranch in New Mexico. Judy was the best animal-mom for horses Tank, Rocket, and Hildago, goats Latte and Safron, indoor cats Pinot, Shadow, barn cat Cali, and dogs Nezzie, Bella, Fang, Heinz, Penny, Goldie.

Raised in Los Angeles, Judy graduated from Fairfax High School and later earned her degree in Architecture from Tulane University. After Tulane, she returned to Los Angeles to work in architecture before moving with Bryan to New Mexico. Most recently, Judy worked as a senior pre-fab designer for Improve Group. She poured genuine care and intention into every project, leaving a lasting mark not only on the spaces she helped create, but on the people she worked alongside. She had a special talent for diving into new products and tools, mastering them with determination and curiosity, then turning around and lifting up her team with that knowledge. Her presence is still felt in the work she shaped and in the team she supported, and her memory will continue to live on through both.

Judy had a deep passion for genealogy and served as the devoted keeper of Akin family history. She spent countless hours researching ancestral records and historical documents, carefully uncovering family stories that spanned generations.

Her college years in New Orleans held a special place in her heart, especially her junior year abroad in Venice, which she considered a defining experience. Judy and Bryan later returned to Italy several times, and also traveled together to Argentina and Scotland. While travel enriched her life, her New Mexico ranch was her true sanctuary—a place of beauty, peace, sweeping hillside views, and room for animals to roam freely.

Judy was a devoted wife and daughter; a loving sister and aunt; and a cherished friend. She is survived by her husband, Bryan Akin Smith; her mother, Janice Akin; her sister, Nancy (Akin) Burt, brother-in-law Matthew Burt, and nephews Daniel and Thomas Burt. She was preceded in death by her father, Seth K. Akin, and her beloved animals Tank, Rocket, Hildago, Latte, Shadow, Pinot, Nezzie, Bella, Fang, and Heinz.

Judy is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family requests contributions be made in Judy’s memory to either Albuquerque Chihuahua Rescue (https://abqchihuahuarescue.org) or Lap Dog Rescue in New Mexico East Mountain (https://lapdogrescue.org)

Kennard Edwin Hibler

In Loving Memory of Kennard Edwin “Buddy” Hibler

Kennard Edwin Hibler, known to everyone as "Buddy," took his place with the Lord on March 22, 2026. A man of unwavering humor, immense dedication to his family, and deep faith in God, Buddy leaves behind a legacy of love that spans generations.

Early Life and Service

Buddy was born in Austin, Texas, to Mason “Pete” and Gladys Hibler. He spent his early years growing up in Bertram, Texas, before his family relocated to Mountainair, New Mexico, where his parents opened a restaurant. Buddy graduated from Mountainair High School, and the family later moved to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. It was there that Buddy began his journey of service to his beloved country. He proudly joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War and served with honor until his honorable discharge in 1954.

A Lifetime of Devotion

It was also in Truth or Consequences that Buddy met the absolute love of his life and soulmate, Kay Mitchell. Their bond was unbreakable, and together they shared 70 beautiful years of marriage—a milestone that served as an inspiration to everyone who knew them.

The couple eventually settled in Moriarty, New Mexico, where Buddy spent 32 years as a dedicated employee of the Central New Mexico Electric Co-op. He worked his way up to manager before his retirement and remained a fixture in the community, sharing his knowledge and passion for the game as a baseball coach.

Passions and Legacy

Buddy truly embraced the great outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, or spending time on his boats and in his RVs, he found peace in nature. He was a talented carpenter with a lifelong love for cars and trucks, and he was well-known for keeping his vehicles immaculate. He could often be found thumbing through old Auto Trader magazines or watching his favorite football and basketball teams while hanging out with his dogs that he loved dearly.

Above all, Buddy was a devoted father and a legendary grandfather. His quick wit and unique sense of humor were his trademarks, bringing smiles to his family, friends, and even strangers in the grocery store.

Family

Buddy is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Hibler, and his sister, Joyce Burnette. He was a devoted father to his children: Debra Hibler, David (Georgie) Hibler, and Becky Hibler. He remains a hero to his 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom will proudly carry his stories and his spirit forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason “Pete” and Gladys Hibler; his brother, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Hibler; one baby grandchild; and four baby great-grandchildren.

Buddy was an amazing man to his family, his friends, and the community he served. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in every cast of a fishing line, every sturdy electric pole, and every home he helped power in Central New Mexico.

Funeral Services are as Follows; Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am followed by the celebration of the Christian Mass at 11:00 am on Thursday April 16, 2026 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM
