We're proud to recognize Brenda Rutherford of Hot Springs as a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Brenda was on duty in the E.R. when a family who survived a car crash came in. While the parents received emergency care, Brenda stayed with their four-year-old child, helping keep them calm through X-rays and an IV insertion. She never left the child's side, making sure they felt safe in a scary situation. Thank you, Brenda, for showing such love and care to a patient who needed it most!

Congratulations to Andrea Garlapati, RN at the Infirmary, on being named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Andrea was nominated by a patient who said she helped ease her mind about some test results with her positive spirit. When it was time to be discharged, Andrea grabbed the wheelchair herself instead of waiting for patient transport and wheeled the patient to their ride outside. Congratulations to Sunshine Raley, RN, of the Infirmary on winning the DAISY Award! Sunshine was honored for her work with a long-term patient. The patient's family said Sunshine went out of her way to keep the family informed, including taking calls and texts after hours, and was completely honest with them about the patient's condition. They credit Sunshine with helping all of them through the process, including the patient who made a full recovery! Thank you, Sunshine, for your letting your love for people shine through your work!

Our Pet of St. Vincent this week is Miko, belonging to Tori Mellas at the Infirmary! Miko is a border collie mix who loves to play fetch with his tennis ball and go for walks. He also conducts very serious neighborhood watches out the front window to check for troublemakers. And at the end of the day, he loves snuggling up for a cozy evening with mom. We think Miko is such a classy boy!
