On Aug 23, our Chief Operating Officer, Naira Aslanyan, and Executive Assistant, Robert Fontana proudly joined Accses New Jersey and advocates from across the state for a “Day on the Hill,” where we met with 12 members of New Jersey’s Congressional Delegation to push for critical policy priorities that affect the individuals we serve:

✅ Preserving Employment Choice for Individuals with Disabilities
We urged lawmakers to remove anti-14(c) language from the Raise the Wage Act (H.R. 4723/S.1332), which proposes phasing out subminimum wage certificates without offering adequate support for individuals currently served by these programs. Employment choice is a disability issue and deserves to be addressed separately from broader wage legislation.

✅ Protecting Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services
We advocated for safeguarding the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) and support efforts to relocate it under the Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), where it can continue to fund and strengthen employment programs for people with disabilities.

✅ Modernizing SSI Asset Limits
We called for support of the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act (H.R. 2540/S.1234), which would raise outdated asset limits that haven’t changed since the 1980s, helping individuals with disabilities maintain critical benefits without being penalized for modest savings.

Together with our colleagues at ACCESS NJ and other partner organizations, we are committed to being a powerful voice for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both locally and nationally.
