This week, our wonderful Radiation Therapy Center staff celebrated their annual Daffodil Days by presenting vases of daffodils to patients undergoing treatment, as well as those visiting for follow-up appointments. Each vase was beautifully tied with a ribbon and included a card that read, “As one of the first flowers of spring, the daffodil is a symbol of hope.” Thank you to the Radiation Therapy team for providing such exceptional care and support to our patients.

Sometimes a little extra care bundled with extraordinary compassion can truly make a significant impact. Today, the providers and staff at our Morris Gastroenterology office had an unexpected visit from Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers President & CEO Tom Dohm. Tom stopped by to personally thank Clinic RNs Mai and Becky for going above and beyond to help a patient who needed a higher level of specialized care navigate through the healthcare system. Joined by Gastroenterologist Dr. Afreen Hyder and Nurse Practitioner Stephanie Mickley, Tom wanted to be sure Mai and Becky know just how much their actions mean for this particular patient. Moments like this make us especially proud of the amazing and incredible staff at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers who make a difference for our patients and community every day.

They are there for the big moments and the everyday ones, helping prevent injuries, treating minor conditions, and keeping athletes performing at their best.

When additional care is needed, they help connect athletes with our providers, ensuring a smooth transition and continued support throughout recovery. Thank you to our athletic training team for your dedication, skill, and commitment to the health and safety of our community!

Thank you to the incredible staff and volunteers including the GAVC Health Occupations students and instructors who helped us screen 322 students for cardiac abnormalities earlier this week at Reed-Custer High School! The Rhythm of Our Youth program, which provides area students with a free, non-invasive cardiac EKG that screen for undiagnosed heart conditions is made possible thanks to the generous donations made to the Morris Hospital Foundation.

Next stops for Rhythm of Our Youth: Gardner-South Wilmington H.S. on April 8. If you have a student who attends Gardner-South Wilmington H.S., be sure to register them for the screening by completing the Rhythm of Our Youth consent form on the Morris Hospital website.

At just the right moment, a small act of kindness can truly make all the difference. One of our incredible volunteers, Cathy Bergstrom, showed exactly what that looks like in action. While a patient was undergoing an emergency procedure, Cathy offered the patient’s husband something invaluable: comfort, compassion, and a calming presence. Through a quiet conversation and a heartfelt prayer, she helped bring a sense of peace during an incredibly difficult moment.

A few days later, the patient’s husband returned with a rose plant for Cathy and shared the wonderful news that his wife was doing well. Moments like these remind us just how special our community is and how powerful simple acts of kindness can be.

Our team HIT IT OUT OF PARK! Today was a great day celebrating our incredible team for all they do to make Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers shine, complete with baseball attire, a baseball-themed menu in the café, and special treats, all in recognition of achieving one of our best accreditation surveys ever. Yes, we intentionally chose Major League Baseball opening day for a special, organization-wide celebration with our team in recognition of their vast contributions to our many recent successes, including an outstanding on-site survey with the Accreditation Commission for Health Care. After reviewing over 900 standards and 10,000 elements of compliance over a three-day period, the four surveyors told our leadership team that we have a “phenomenal” hospital, “beautiful” equipment, an “amazing” scope of services, and “lovely” colleagues who are doing an “excellent” job. You can understand why we have reason to celebrate!
