Jim DeBoer 92 from Iowa made these all out of wood. They have movable and removable parts. He began carving when he was 12 years old. Zoom in and look at the work put into it. Each takes between 80 and 100 hours to complete. Just amazing.

Today marks our Thirtieth Anniversary. We moved into our house on this day in 1992. We bought the farm in July 1991. It was raw land back then, no buildings of any kind. We didn't begin milking until September 1st, 1995. It took a long time to build the milking parlor and barn. Most good things in this life always take time. They are not usually overnight projects. It reminds us of the old adage, " Patience is a virtue." We've let our land grow up, using only a small part of it as pasture for the cows. It's almost like a mini wildlife preserve now. We enjoy seeing the animals. They seem to like seeing us, too, well, kinda. So, here we are. Thirty years into the Casey Family Farm. And we really are a family farm. Many members of our clan do their own special part to make the "family" in our name ring true. We try to treat our customers as part of our family, too. Because, in fact, you are. Thanks again for your support!

We receive regular requests from people wanting to buy Guernsey cattle. We have gotten 4-5 just in the last couple of months. We hope that one of the legacies of the Casey Family Farm will be that it played a role in reintroducing Guernseys back into Middle Tennessee. In 1998, we purchased ten Registered Guernseys from a top farm in Pennsylvania. They were huge animals, as big as many Holsteins! As someone said, " They must grow 'em big in Pennsylvania!" They do, actually. Anyway, by the early two thousands, we had almost seventy-five total head in the herd. By that time, we had stopped selling our milk to the dairy plant, because it was a losing proposition. In fact, we weren't milking at all. We were just raising Guernsey cattle. A man stop by one day and wanted to buy some cows, so we made a deal. We sold him 40-50 head over a 2-3 year period. He and his business partner were going to start a dairy . Sadly, before their dream could be realized , the man passed away. He was a nice guy! His business partner sold the animals at an auction up in Kentucky, just over the state line from Tennessee. The cows went to a number of buyers. In just a short time we began seeing Guernsey livestock being offered for sale all over Northern and Eastern Middle Tennessee. By their markings, we could tell that many were connected back to us. It made us proud to see these fine animals in such abundance, compared to how it had been for many years earlier. In the eighties and nineties, Guernseys were almost impossible to find locally. Currently, we don't sell many dairy cows because we have cut back so much. We only have a few animals left. Hundreds have passed through here over the last twenty-five years( the dairy started in 1995 with Jerseys). There are only two or three Grade A dairies left here in Warren County. We're very thankful to be one of them! These ole girls who came down from Pennsylvania almost twenty-five years ago, have played no small part in that accomplishment. We stand in awe of them, and all of those who came before them. They are truly magnificent creatures!

Today Petunia died. She would have been sixteen in July......Last night she walked up the ramp one last time. Like an old soldier, she knew she was dyin'......After she milked she stopped at the ramp, as if to say goodbye. She paused there a moment, then she went away to die......I found her in the field where she lay and I'll always remember this Easter Day! The day my Sweet Petunia went away.

Here at the Casey Family Farm we're checking into certifying our cows as A2 cows. Our cows are all Guernsey and Jersey, with the Guernsey genes comprising about 75% of our herd. Approximately 90% of all Guernsey cows are A2 animals. We plan to test and certify our animals in the near future to verify that our milk is indeed A2 milk! A2 milk is a genetically superior milk which has been naturally preserved in select cows which did not go through a genetic mutation which occurred in cows many, many years ago. Most milk sold today( well over 90%) comes from Holstein cows which have the mutation or A1 milk. For more information on A2 milk, you can go to https://a2milk.com/faq/

We do feed grain to our milk cows in the milking parlor. However, our herd has year round access to hay and pasture ( when available), so we can honestly say that our herd derives a majority of its nutrition from grass. We try very hard here at the Casey Family Farm to keep our farming operation as "natural and old-fashioned" as possible. We like to say that our motto is" where old-fashioned milk is still in fashion!"

Our cows are enjoying this cooler weather and we are finding ourselves with lots of milk. We leave the mama cows and baby calves together and harvest the extra milk for our dairy, but production is still up. We are looking for ideas where we can sell more milk. Does anyone have any suggestions for another market we might be able to join?

Our milk supply is up now, thank goodness! We've been real low for the last few months. Hopefully, we won't get this low again. We have some young cows getting ready to calve in the spring so that should help with our milk flow.

At this time I would like to thank our loyal customers for sticking with us through these lean times. We feel that we have a fine product ,but we have even finer patrons! If we didn't have customers who appreciate our product we would have no product! Thanks again to you all for allowing us to serve you ! We will continue to try very hard to produce our version of a good-tasting and healthful milk.

Our motto at the Casey Family Farm is " Where old fashion milk is still in fashion!" Thanks again to all of you!
