The Meadows Adolescent Center

The Meadows Adolescent Center The Meadows’ history of healing extends more than 45 years, treating a wide range of age groups and conditions.

The Meadows Adolescent Center takes that proven model and applies it to the unique issues this age group faces. Our expertly trained staff, with input from the leading experts in the industry, help teens develop the skills necessary to change what isn’t working and find lasting healing. Our program isn’t adult curriculum sized down for adolescents. It’s an intensive, experientially based program created specifically for teens with input from industry leaders. We recognize that our patients are still developing, and we use methods proven to help this age group address trauma, addiction, mental health, and family and relational issues. We rely on a variety of treatment modalities to help our patients get the best possible outcomes, from Neurosequential Modeling, IFS, and EMDR to individual and groups sessions, intensive family work, neurofeedback, and more. We also incorporate a wide range of activities to enhance the treatment process, taking advantage of our natural surroundings. Education remains a priority while in treatment as well, and we work directly with private, public, and charter schools so students don’t miss a beat.

🇺🇸 “Asking for help is an absolute strength.”

Erie Hebert, Senior Director of Meadows Outpatient Services for Austin and Houston, and a proud U.S. Army veteran, shares a powerful reminder this Veterans & Military Families Month.

After serving 10 years, both enlisted and as an officer, Erie knows firsthand how the transition from military to civilian life can challenge one’s sense of identity and purpose.

He reminds fellow veterans that the world waiting beyond service depends on purpose, energy, and the willingness to keep refining who you are.

Many service members are taught to be warriors, to push through and handle everything alone. But as Erie shares, asking for help isn’t a weakness; it’s one of the strongest, most courageous choices you can make.

Because every veteran deserves more than just to hang up their hat at the end of the day. 💙

🐴✨ Meet the healing power of the herd.

At The Meadows, our Equine Therapy Program isn’t about riding, it’s about being present, building trust, and engaging with something meaningful beyond words.

In sessions guided by licensed therapists alongside equine specialists, our horses reflect emotions, mirror our moods, and offer a safe, non‑judgmental space for growth and healing.

From grooming and obstacle work to gentle moments of connection, participants explore emotional awareness, resilience and change through unique interactions with these incredible animals.

Whether you or a loved one is navigating recovery, trauma, or a desire for something different, this is one of the many paths available at The Meadows. Because healing can come in quiet moments of trust, eye‑to‑eye with a horse. 🐎 https://hubs.la/Q03RGylM0

🎖️ November is National Veterans & Military Families Month

“I’ve got this. I can do it on my own.”

That’s something Rob Petron Cole, Primary Therapist at The Meadows Main Campus, often hears from the veterans he works with — strong, resilient individuals who show up every day ready to fight for their recovery.

But here’s Rob’s powerful reminder 👇

“Addiction and mental health issues thrive in isolation. Healing happens when we lean on our community and support systems.”

As we move into the holiday season, take time to connect — with loved ones, with yourself, and with the activities that bring you peace. 💙

Because recovery takes a village.

🎥 In Case You Missed It: The Hidden Impact of Social Media on Teen Memory

This morning, Mark Baumgartner, LPC and Vice President of Outpatient Operations at Meadows Behavioral Healthcare, joined 3TV News on how social media may be doing more than just distracting teens, it could be undermining their memory and brain development.

🔁 From a clinical lens, Mark highlighted the addiction-like patterns seen in social media overuse:
• Constant reward loops (likes, comments, notifications)
• Decreased attention and memory recall
• Displacement of deep thinking and learning
• Signs of compulsive behavior and emotional dysregulation

👀 What can parents do?
✔️Set digital hygiene routines (tech-free time during meals, homework, bedtime)
✔️Model healthy screen habits
✔️Encourage memory-building activities (reading, journaling, mindfulness)
✔️Use tools like app timers and offline incentives

🧠 As Mark shared:
“If the brain is being taught at these young ages to be optimized for social media scrolling, then it might not be optimized for other things.”

We’re proud to see our team sharing insights on such a timely and important issue.
