🌱✨ Just like a plant in its journey from seed to bloom, our mental health recovery is a gradual process.
I often hear my clients say “I feel like I’m not making any progress.” This is accompanied by feelings of frustration, disappointment, feeling like a “failure” and doubting that recovery is possible for them.
However, when I review how they presented when they first came to therapy vs. their current presentation, there is almost ALWAYS improvements and accomplishments they have made over time.
The real issue is not lack of progress, but lack of RECOGNITION of their progress and every small step they take each day.
People often focus on their desired outcome, and spend so much time fantasizing about that, rather than making the connection to what they can do each day allows them to get closer to that goal.
Like the plant growing in my office, every small step, every drop of sunshine, and even the rainy days contribute to our growth. The plant is not focused on how big it wants to grow, it is focused on getting its daily needs met (water, sun, etc). The growth happens because of the daily care of the plant. Let this be a reminder that with patience and care, we can flourish. Keep nurturing yourself; the blossoms are worth the wait! 🌼🌿
