Lick and chew tells me that the area I’m massaging feels so nice. I was able to confirm a couple places she seemed sore and give this spots a little extra attention.

Red light therapy to the stifle area after massage tonight for a sore mare. she’s not wanting to rest her weight on the left side and is defensive. Let’s see if we can get her some relief 😊🐴

This massage therapist learned something new today from our chiropractor- right after an adjustment is a great time for a massage!! Since muscles are connected to bones, after we get the bones in alignment is a good time for massage to relax those muscles!! Pretty girl got adjusted AND massages today. Also… the horses are saying spring is coming 🌸

I get a lot of questions like “aren’t you afraid it will kick you??” And the answer is generally no! I almost always keep both hands on the horse at all times because I feel like it lets the horse know where I am and what I’m doing with my hands!! And most importantly I stand as CLOSE as possible to the back legs. That’s right… close. The more room the horse has to reach with a kick the harder it will hurt!! She can’t get me very hard either if I’m wrapped around her back leg 😉. I do my own horse this way as well as new horses because… at the end of the day they’re all still 1,000 pound flight animals 🤷🏼‍♀️🐎

Biiiiiig yaawwwnnnn. I love watching horses’ reactions as they receive therapy!! 😍🐎 Recently I added red light therapy to my program and it seems to be most relaxing or effective on the withers.

We finished out Chubby’s massage with some red light therapy on her withers area. The red light therapy pad is versatile in what location we can apply it- and red light therapy uses infrared as well as near infrared lights to help healing. 🐎

The easiest sign to tell a horse is relaxing and getting a release during massage is the lick and chew. Lick and chew tells me that was a sore area and I often will work that spot or area a little extra! Other signs of relaxation are a big yawns and big sighs.

Adding red light therapy after a massage to see if we can help my little mare. She tends to tense up in the same place along her lumbar and it correlates to the places she is out of alignment when the chiropractor comes out. Did you know dogs and horses are more sensitive to infrared and near infrared light than humans? Plus my helper came out tonight- she brought her ball and everything 😉🐶

Welcome! Meet Nita Cowboy, my AQHA mare who is about to turn 19 believe it or not! She loves to turn barrels and loves her massages. We’re always looking for ways to keep her healthy and young 💜. Tonight she got to try out our new red light therapy pad (while helping herself to some grain 🙄). Happy horse happy rider.
